Guest guest
Hi guys, I'm Judy. I had my revision surgery done by Dr. LaGrone in 2001. I had an excellent recovery and went on my merry way. I'd been on this site before and after my surgery but since everything had been going so well, I had nothing to add. My Harrington fusion was in 1981-after that 4 more back surgeries here in Houston to try to stop the horrible pain I was in-nothing worked. By the time I saw Dr. LaGrone I was bent completely forward and on so many pain pills that all I really wanted was just to die. My family convinced me to go through with the revision surgery and it saved my life. My pain went away and I started to live again. Some new problems have now come up and I'm wondering if any of you can relate to these. Throughout the years, the tops of my rods have started trying to push through the skin of my back. Years ago, Dr. LaGrone had said if it got worse he would have to trim them and it wouldn't be any big deal. I Just put it off and put it off and when the pain started getting bad in my upper back--I just kept trying to ignore it. Well, I finally faced reality and went to Dr. LaGrone. The x-ray showed that just above where my fusion starts at T-4, my spine has now started curving forward ( looks like " Dowager's Hump " ). So now he'll have to extend my fusion up much higher. Also, after all this time I have a little hole that keeps opening up right on my incision scar and it drains and bleeds sometimes--not always. Local doctors have treated but it won't ever totally heal. Dr LaGrone says there is a possiblity there is an infection in my spine and he won't know until he goes in. He says there is a chance he may have to take out all the hardware to stop the infection and eventually re-operate and put all the hardware back in. Wow--I just wasn't ready for this. At the age of 60, I felt 6 back surgeries were more than enough to have to deal with--this is really getting me depressed. This stupid scolio crap started when I was 11 years old and here I am at 60 still being haunted by it. I guess the only time it will stop will be the day I die. If anyone else has had these problems--please help! I'm worn out. Thanks, Judy M

Guest guest
Hi Judy, I can't believe what you have had to live through. I too suffer from major Flatback and Sciatica-but nothing like you. I know what you mean by being "haunted" by scoliosis- although some days i may feel OK- the pain is always there making me very aware of what we have lived through. My heart goes out to you- i certainly hope that you can find some pain relief and not have to suffer so much. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Take good care of you- Karyn From: Luff <lufflauren@...>Subject: Re: Here I go again! Received: Tuesday, May 26, 2009, 6:21 PM Hi Judy, I'm so sorry for what you're going through. Guest guest
Judy, I'm so sorry to hear that you will be needing such extensive surgery. I hope that you don't end up having an infection of your hardware! Have they started you on any antibiotics? Is there a timeline for when you will need this surgery? I wish you had heard better news, but please know that we're all here for you as you go thru this surgery yet again. > > Hi guys, > > I'm Judy. I had my revision surgery done by Dr. LaGrone in 2001.
