Guest guest
Does anyone know if there is any mention in the reflex work or BrainGym, adjunct therapies about an acoustic reflex and how to normalize it? It has to do with the strapedius muscle. I know Barbara Ward has a balance for noise sensitivity, but I was wondering if there was an actual "reflex" associated with it. Here is a clip from http://www.aitinstitute.org/AIT_and_SPD_article.htm: Having a Healthier Acoustic Reflex: Helps the ears screen out background noise. Eliminates or reduces distortions (a person can be hypo-sensitive, hyper-sensitive, or both) Focuses and concentrates hearing. Reduces the sounds of one’s voice, swallowing, chewing. Is important for properly activation and function of the inner ear structures. Positively affects the vestibular system in the inner ear. The Stapedius Muscle and Acoustic Reflex Allows the Vestibular System To: Provide correct posture and equilibrium in response to gravity. Determine correct control of eye movement. Combine its reflexes with those of the visual and proprioceptive systems for control of movement and body awareness. When the acoustic reflex and the vestibular system are functioning efficiently, information is sent to the brain without confused and mixed-up signals. Given that the brain decodes and processes a great deal of auditory-related information, having efficiency in this area is a strong plus for more successful sensory processing in general.
