Guest guest
Dear , I had the same problem with doctor's being reluctant to prescribe pain meds. GP's and surgeons are concerned about the problems they could bring down on themselves by prescribing narcotics. I have come to realize that it is just one more specialty. We go to a foot dr for our foot and an eye dr for our eyes so too we must go to a pain management dr with our pain. I have seen a pain management dr for over 5 years and if you can find a good one it will make all the difference. Narcotics arent the only means of pain management but for many of us they are the only way to have any kind of a life at all. I would ask the dr who is prescribing your meds to refer you to a pain managemnt physician and he will probably be happy to do it. I hope it works out for you. My life has changed since I found a good pain management dr. I am far from pain free but at least I dont get treated like a drug addict or a person with a weak character anymore. Good luck, RoseMariewendy dutka <trendywenuk@...> wrote: I have been a member some time now but very rarelypost but do keep up with the threads though. Guest guest
Hi, -- I'm sorry this reply is so late. I want to plagiarize RoseMarie and say yes, by all means, get yourself to a pain management specialist! I agree with everything else RoseMarie said as well. Life is too short to suffer that much at the hands of a medication-shy doctor. I also go to pain management specialists and would have no life without them. I wish I could tell you the genetics of scoliosis. I can empathize with your concern about sparing your younger daughter the medical difficulties you had to endure yourself. Medtronic (to name one donor I know of) is now funding some fairly large-scale genetic research on this question. Up until recently, though, the lion's share of available funding went to research on scoliosis surgery rather than research in other areas such as genetics and prevention.
