Guest guest
Hi Celia, Was you able to see s x-rays? I'm going to take a pic of them with a digital camera to see if they will come out clearer. Bridgette 's x-rays> > > Is it just me ? I can't seem to bring up 's x-ray pictures. Guest guest
Hi Bridgette, I have the same problem Deshea has. I only have access to the C.A.S.T. website, I don't get e-mails. I think that was one of the options I had when I first signed up with the group. If you could somehow find a way to post it onto the photo site that would be great. Guest guest
Hi Annette, We too are in the UK. has only ever been x-rayed lying down as he can¹t stand. I didn¹t know there was any difference. He is due to have a new cast next Weds and I will ask his back surgeon then. Also, does your daughter have a hole in the back of her cast as well as the front. has only ever had a hole for his tummy, but reading on here some kids have ones in the back? I am dreading next Weds. It will be good to be able to give a bath, but I get so upset seeing his poor skin and although he enjoys being cast free for a while, I feel horrible knowing it is only a short while. Saying that this site has so many good people on it and has given me lots of hope for ¹s future. I think it depends pretty much on where the curve is and what type to whether they can place any more holes in. Obviously the more holes they make the less strength is in the cast to hold position. Where do you go for treatment?, we're based in Northanptonshire but go to Oxford to the Nuffield centre for treatment. I must say 's skin was quite sore after her 2nd cast but this time it was fine, they seem to have padded the last cast out quite well. The only problem we had was a paper clip which had escaped and found it's way in to the front of her cast. I don't know if you put anything on s skin when the cats comes off but as has her cast off the eveing before the new one is due to go on, we manage to put some aqueaus( i think that's how you spell it) cream on to stop the itching. Guest guest
Actually, using Mehta's style there is always a hole in the back. It is placed opposite the curve...so, Ian's hole is on the left side since he has a right thoracic curve. The purpose of the hole is to correct the rib hump. Basically, this allows them to decrease the hump on the side without the hole and allows the flattened ribs on the side with the hole to expand back to the normal shape. It in no way compromises the cast's ability to hold the curve as you can tell by Ian's great success...he went from 43 degrees to 11 degrees out of cast (he is 3 degrees in his current cast). Guest guest
Hi Annette, and , What is saying is 100% correct. These casts need to have a window on the opposite side of the curve. This is so essential to the quality of life of our kids. Perhaps you could explain to your orthopedic surgeon the benefits of a window at the back, provide him with some literature and request it for future casts. Where abouts are you both from in the UK? Where are your kids getting treated? was also treated in the UK for a while, but I was very unhappy with the standard of casts where went. Was diagnosed with idiopathic infantile scoliosis? Are her casts very fitted to her body, or is there room in the cast? What is 's cobb angle at now? Take care, hope to hear from you all soon! Guest guest
It's okay Annette . I just wanted to share our experience with the Mehta style of casting.
