First let me say that it is possible to have sciatica type stuff and the

injections not work. The person doing the injection can be a bad shot so to

speak.. Let me offer some suggestions. That sciatic type pain ,,in your

buttocks, Sacro-iliac joint areas? You may want to try deep tissue massage

of the piriformis muscle in your buttocks. That in spasm can add and/or

mimick sciatic pain. the sciatic pain can come from Sacro-Iliac Joint

degeneration. Try anti-inflammatories and/or laying on a large ice pack

frequently, when you sleep, sit can help pain and swelling. Most importantly

find yourself THE BEST revision Spine Ortho doc so your symptoms &

condition can be correctly diagnosed. That doc should be able to give you

best advice. Lastly the least offensive exercise to our spines is getting

into a deep water pool and doing aqua aerobics with a buoyancy belt to keep

you upright. Physical therapy can frequently aggravate SI Joint, flatback

ect symptoms..rule of thumb.. if it hurts STOP... You can get your doc to

request spine PT pool therapy....as well. good luck..

wishing you many peaceful moments

I am going through the exact same process trying to figure out how to

deal with this killer " pain in the butt " while putting off surgury as

long as possible. While I am sure that the nerve is involved in some

way with the HARMS...and I do get a tingle all the way down my

leg....what is killing me is the apparent spasm of the piriformis

muscle. Did you have any succes in quelling the spasms with deep

tissue massage? My guess is that is what will help...and maybe

improve...along with NSAIDS. I really don't see the injections as a

solution, I like the chances of side-effects from the Bextra rather

than a epidural injections!

Did you try chiropractic along with massage with any success? Thanks,

Cam

The very first sign (about 5 years ago)that eventually led me to this

site and to realize I am developing flatback was my " pain in the

butt " . Hubby was able to relieve it by placing his elbow in just the

right place and pushing with constant pressure for as much as a

minute at a time. Although I screamed with pain through out each of

those minutes, when he quit pushing, my pain was gone. The relief

lasted sometimes for as much as several days. About 2 years ago when

the pain came more often, I went to Google for help.

It was then I discovered the piriformis muscle and a stretch that

works. Try googling " piriformis stretch " . There are several

versions, laying down, standing, sitting... Laying down works best

for me, because I can push on my lower leg or knee or pull on either

to find just the right position to stretch the tight area.

I hope this helps.
