I do not endorse any of these surgeons as I have not had personal experience

with them. There are many other great surgeons revision surgeons that are not

listed here! This list is very, very incomplete. Maybe it can give you a

starting point. Another idea is to join one of the internet support groups and

ask the members for personal references.

Hi a,

On your Canadian list, Dr. Tredwell, Vancouver deals with juvenile scoliosis

and Dr. Kunkel, , I've been told has retired. Dr. Dvorack works out

of Vanspine in Vancouver and I believe he does revision but I have not been

able to get that confirmed but I'm on the three-year waiting list at

Vanspine. Hope this helps.

Hi Laurie,

I think the list is great and I wouldn't think you were " endorsing "

them, just passing on the information about those who perform

revision surgery.

I think you got Dr. Darrell Hanson's name from me. He took over for

my retired original surgeon, Dr. Dickson, in Houston. He told

me he has performed revision surgeries, but he is VERY young and I

don't think he could have done many. He is not someone I would

recommend to someone facing revision surgery. I would suggest

taking him off the list unless someone else knows or thinks

otherwise.

I think the term you want to use is " revision " rather than " revisionist. "

This is an interesting set of names, some of them unfamiliar.

Unfortunately there are no clear criteria for picking a revision surgeon, and

even the term " revision " is sometimes used loosely to refer to any kind of

reoperation following an initial spinal fusion for scoliosis. Assuming that you

are seeking a surgeon specifically for the revision of HARMS (Harrington rod

malalignment syndrome)/flatback syndrome/fixed sagittal imbalance, you will want

to focus on surgeons who have corrected this specific type of deformity many

times over.

I realize this whole area is very confused and confusing. It is good that you

are aware of the need to look beyond SRS membership or experience with scoliosis

correction per se. Undoubtedly most of us know what you mean by " revisionist " as

well, although this has all kinds of other implications (e.g., for historians)

and might not be the optimal search term.
