Guest guest
Llweyn, that sounds like the rod came apart! My surgical report said something about cranking the rod one notch, like it maybe it telescopes, like a car jack or collapsible umbrella, though I admit that was never explained to me at the time. Makes sense, though. They said they weren't going for much correction, and cranking it one notch would be consistant with that statement. Do you know if they got a lot of correction on you? If the rod was jacked up a lot, seems that would make it easier for it to come apart. At any rate, it's no wonder you're in pain! Best of luck with the disability issues, and with your quest for physical relief. Sharon X-ray report question After a lot of miscommunication, the doctor finally sent me for a complete set of X-rays, which I recieved a copy of the report. I now know that I'm fused from T4-L3. Does anyone know what " The rod appears to have separated from the traction component " means? The rest of the report I can understand except for this comment. I was able to get a copy of the MRI scan report, which shows " markedly " degeneration and a small herniation. I was surprised that they were able to see that much with the rods but not surprised with the results. I had quit my work at the beginning of January and my Neurologist ordered me not to go back full-time and that once a week was stretching it. I'm just waiting for the long-term Disability Pension to be approved (I got the short-term already). Good luck with your surgery, , and everyone else having their's. Guest guest
Harrington rods had ridges that allowed correction to be made little by little, by ratcheting up (or down). Guest guest
Thanks, . My own x-ray is clearer than that shot, though. So the racheting mechanism connected to the hook. And if this piece came off the rod, it would be similar to having the hook come loose. Guest guest
Thank you, Llweyn. I hope you get some help with your own spinal situation. I am sorry to hear you are having so much trouble but am hopeful that the diagnostic results may lead to some real relief. I'd better refrain from trying to interpret the language (bearing in mind that radiologists do not necessarily even use quite the same vocabulary as neurosurgeons or orthopedists, not to mention family physicians and internists). Please keep us posted on revision surgery in Canada. I feel I do not know nearly enough about what resources may be available to you.
