Dawn-

I have had Kenalog injections on and off for the last year or so.

Dr. Kennedy was attempting to get me to Scripps in a " pristine "

nasal state and removed polyps in the office and injected Kenalog

10mg right into edematous tissues. Last injection for me was in

June. I made it through the summer without any office visits, then

had this nasty sinus infection requiring Levaquin and a burst of

oral prednisone. The plan is to inject some more Kenalog my next

visit in two weeks.

As for systemic effects, I do feel like I am swallowing a small

amount of the Kenalog..no studies out there on intranasal steroid

injections and their effects.

Take care-

Hi Dawn,

Little time to respond -Sampters grows on you! If one wants results one will

need to go serious for the duration of the elimination diet. Avoid chocolates -

colourants etc. Avoid processed foods as there might be hidden additives not

mentioned. Through the fedupwithfoodadditive website (see library) their support

groups (in USA and varous others places) can be found under Factsheets that will

offer support regarding questions/recipies etc.

I am trying to learn all I can about this and I really appreciate all

the welcomes I have received! I started the Samter's diet today and

I have ordered the books too. Are there any processed foods that are

ok? I desperately need to have chocolate in my life - any

suggestions?!?!? Why do some people on here not elect to do the

ASA? I am curious if it is because of risk etc? I still don't quite

understand why we would react to salicylates in food but be able to

overcome it by taking ASA. Is it the amount? Have any of you had

your polyps injected directly with Kenalog? I did and it helped for

about 2 months. The ENT said it doesn't have the systemic effects

like oral steroids but I don't believe him. I could tell by the

flushing etc. Thanks - Dawn

I desperately need to have chocolate in my life - any suggestions -

Dawn.

Dawn, you can have carob and some recipes use cocoa powder. I found a

brownie recipe online. Do a search under " failsafe chocolate recipes "

and a lot of pages come up. Trudy.

" Blondies " (not Brownies as they have no chocolate!)

2 cups of flour

2 tsp of baking powder

1/2 cup of butter

2 cups of packed brown sugar

2 eggs

1/2 tsp of vanilla (optional) 1/4 tsp sea salt

failsafe carob buttons (optional) final step.

Grease a 13x9x2 inch (35x22x5cm) baking pan. Combine flour, baking

powder and sea salt. Melt butter, remove from heat. Stir in sugar.

Add eggs and vanilla. Stir till combined. Stir mixed dry ingredients

(and carob buttons, if desired) into sugar mixture. Spread in pan.

Bake in a 180'C (350'F) oven 20 to 25 minutes. Cut into bars while

warm. - Vicki Cana
