Guest guest
Does anyone else use a CPAP with Samters? My ENT wants me to go to another sleep study and get a CPAP. I'm reluctant because it seems like the CPAP is what started my whole sinus mess in the first place. I have had sleep apnea since birth. About 15 year ago my DR thought I should do something about it. I had surgery to remove tonsils, adenoids, trim turbinates, and fix a deviated septum. Since that didn't seem to fix it the Dr sent me to sleep study and decided I needed a CPAP. I spent slightly over a month's salary on the stupid little machine. After about 2 weeks I couldn't use it because I got a " cold " . I was referred to an ENT. I developed a sinus infection. I spent the next year and a half trying to get rid of it. Finally the ENT convinced me that the only fix was surgery. They cleaned out my sinus and the DR said he removed a cyst that was larger than a golf ball. Now I no longer had a sinus infection so I was told to use the CPAP again. I tried but only used it for a few days. I got another cold but this time in turned into pneumonia. I had to go the ER and they said I had " temporary asthma " . After I got over that my sinuses were still bothering me. The ENT said that I had " severe allergies " but I tested negative in all allergy tests. Then I developed asthma... then it all unraveled into Samters which I've had now for many years. I've spent the last 13 years fighting Samters. I just had my last polyp removal surgery a month ago. I didn't get my sense of smell back this time so yesterday the DR wrote me out a prescription for prednisone. At least I'll get a few days of smell. :-) Then he decided to talk about my Apnea. I am so reluctant to strap another CPAP to my face. On my best nights I only have to wake up and blow my nose 3 times. On the bad nights is almost constant. How can it possible to wear a CPAP with a stuffy nose? I also feel that my Samters is somehow the fault of the CPAP to begin with. How do you feel about CPAPs? Am I crazy?
