Guest guest
Does anyone else have acid reflux along with their samters? I find when the acid washes up it triggers my nose to get stuffy/runny (how's that for an oxymoron) and I start wheezing. I was put on Nexium for it and it got worse so now I eat Gaviscon like crazy. I was also wondering if all samter sufferers have certain other symptoms that are the same. I would like to compile a list and check. Maybe this was already done on this board and I missed it? Let me know! Trudy.
Guest guest
That idea of compiling a list has come up before but I don't think that anyone has done it. I do get acid reflux too. I now take Ranitidine daily. That stops it. I started experiencing the reflux a couple of years ago. It was in the form of strong pain in the middle of my chest. It was followed by nausea, cold sweats, feverish, then my heart rate and blood pressure would drop. The doctor called it a vagal response to the pain. I know others in this group mentioned experiencing the same thing. Other symptoms I have...rash/hives that typically show up at night (when I am hot), the more I scratch the worse they get. Taking an allergy medicine daily keeps me from getting the rash. Stacey in MA samters and gerd... Does anyone else have acid reflux along with their samters? Guest guest
There are definitely a lot of us that have this. I remember also some information about it possibly being related to medications, such as Advair. I don't think it's necessarily just common to people with Samters, but rather those with asthma in general. Be careful with the Gaviscon, I'm not sure it's the best thing to take long-term. It's basically a metal that you're ingesting. It works great, though. I've used it when I needed to. I was diagnosed with reflux but then they later found it by endoscopy to actually be eosinophilic gastritis, or " allergic stomach. " I have found by not eating certain foods I can avoid getting it. I had some pretty scary attacks last winter, one time I even called the ambulance because I felt like I was dying. Wasn't a panic attack, though, the acid somehow set off this reaction and made my blood pressure drop. Very scary. Lori
Guest guest
My allegist has dx'd me with reflux from a nasal swab. He always swabs my nose and looks at it under the microscope, then asks me if I want to see what is in my nose. lol > Does anyone else have acid reflux along with their samters?
