Dave, thanks for sharing your experiences, certainly they are

invaluable to us! What were the brain surgeries for?? Related to

Samter's in some way?

It is interesting about the sulfites. I guess some people can be

reactive to them. I just don't think that is the component for most

of us, because as I had mentioned they tested many many people at

Scripps and no one was reactive. But if someone is I can imagine it

could be quite severe.

I am VERY interested what you said about corn. I have declared

myself allergic to corn. I used to go in the hospital several times

a year and would get sicker every time they put me on the IV with

prednisone. So finally we looked at what was in the IV, and it was

dextrose, which usually is made from corn sugar. So when they took

that out and put plain saline, voila, I was much better! And then

did not have reactions to the IV anymore and never got worse AFTER

coming to hospital!

So I eliminated corn from my diet almost completely for a while,

which was extremely difficult because like you said it's in all the

processed foods. Then I gradually added it back in in some things.

But you reminded me I should cut down again. I think Americans in

particular eat WAY too much corn. It is in EVERYTHING. It may be a

major cause of diabetes in this country and others. In Europe corn

is NOT in everything. It's not in soda, for instance, like it is

here. (They use plain sugar instead of corn syrup).

My great-grandfather was a miller in Germany. He used to say " Corn

is for horses! " and he refused to eat it. And he is right. We

actually do not really digest corn and certainly we do not digest it

properly. When it's broken down in corn syrup I think it can be

especially harmful (sulfites or not).

What are your study groups??? Curious to know more about this,

please let us know about it!!

Thanks for sharing

Lori
