tylenol after surgery

I have sitting here wondering why this post-surgery time seems to be

going so well for me compared to my others as far as remaining polyp-

free so far and I have some ideas about it. It hasn't been so long,

only a couple of months, but my sinuses look great. I smell only

occasionally strong smells but I am not as bothered by the lack of

smell anymore, as long as I can breathe through my nose.

I really think a major difference for me this time is that I did not

take ANY tylenol post-surgery. I wonder if this might be helpful for

others, since as we have discussed Tylenol/acetaminophen is in just

about everything they prescribe for pain so most of us would get it

after surgery unless you really jump through hoops to avoid it.

I wonder if even people who don't notice a reaction to Tylenol may be

reacting to it on such a low level that it makes your polyps or other

symptoms worse on a low grade, very slowly progressive level.

Five and a half years ago was my last surgery. I needed it for years

but I try to put off the operations as long as I can (meaning

literally the polyps are growing out of my nose by the time the

surgeon sees me, EWWW). Every medication I am on now was not

available at the time of my last surgery (or if they were I wasn't

taking them): Singulair, Advair, and Nasonex.

All of these helped me but not enough without the surgery. Then when

I reacted worse to Tylenol about a year ago I haven't taken it again

since and I think that has made a big difference, too.

Just some thoughts ...

Dear Lori,

That is a good idea. I'm going to get tylenol tested next time I get my

NAET treatments. You may be right - it could be irritating us and we don't

even know it. I take it all the time when I have any pain.
