Guest guest
well, I am definitely a convert to TRUE sinus irrigation. I got my adaptor today from Carol and it works great! Sinus irrigation has developed replaced aspirin desensitization at the top of my list of most effective things you can do for this disease. The reason sinus irrigation is above aspirin desense for me now is that it doesn't have side effects. Although I do have ONE kind of side effect and I want to know how you all keep from getting nauseous or vomiting. No matter what position I do this in, I still get a lot that gets swallowed. It comes down the back of my throat. The salt water is also very irritating to my throat and makes me have that itchy throat feeling where I want to " scratch " the back of my throat. It makes me gag and also a couple of times when I could not help but swallow a lot I felt very nauseous like I would vomit. The nasal adaptor works GREAT. You all knew that already, but for anyone that tries this, definitely get the nasal adaptor. I was able to use it in the blocked nostril and actually get water to come out the other nostril. This made me a very happy camper! " Louie, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. " Lori
Guest guest
Hey Lori, it's so great to hear that it's working for you. I agree with your perspective -- you can get results without drugs and their risks and their side effects, and without also without cutting. My ENT assures me that one can flush as often as one wants, without any negative effects. With respect to the gagging and swallowing: for me, it is sometimes necessary to cough and clear the throat -- in general I have a lot of the flow coming out of the mouth, in addition to the exit nostril. I don't think I ever swallow much. Karl has said that it's a function of how you hold your tongue. Perhaps as you get more comefortable with the process, the gagging will ease off. I don't have the salty itchy throat thing. I use 1 teaspoon of salt in the reservoir of the WaterPik. I can taste the salt, but it is not irritating or nauseating. I always gargle with hot water at the end of the session to clear the throat of any remaining mucous that might be left there from the irrigtion. Perhaps that would also help your itchy throat. Of course, my last comment is to hope that you will keep at it. Improvement will continue. For others in this group: most of you know that Lori has very strong credentials here. Her endorsement here, along with Karl's earlier analysis, eg. http://personal.ecu.edu/wuenschk/Nasal-Irrigation.htm should be taken seriously by anyone who wants to breathe better. -- Ken West Check the library . . . samters/links > From: " truelori " <lori@...> > Reply-samters > Date: Sat, 04 Feb 2006 22:45:32 -0000 > samters > Subject: a beautiful thing > > well, I am definitely a convert to TRUE sinus irrigation.
