Guest guest
Hi Kate, I have had a quick look at the website you suggested,I didn't really understand the mechanism of action of the drug. However, if it is blocking the action of a neurotransmitter between the hours of 2am and 4am (nearly the time at which melatonin levels peak)and also having side effects of sleep problems, then it may interfere in some way with melatonin. Anyway, I will be very interested to hear how you get on. The reason why i am so interested in the russian paper is because it is the first stab i have seen at getting to the root cause of what is wrong with us. It actually tries to correct an imbalance that is the root cause ,rather than just treating the symptoms. Even desensitisation (if it works) is simply another treatment of the symptoms. Chances are that our bodies will adapt to the new goalposts. The reason why i mention migraine and psoriasis is because they are also believed to be caused by changes in levels of the same hormone family(An amino acid called tryptophan makes serotonin, serotonin makes melatonin and melatonin breaks down to salicylic acid). Changes in serotonin levels during the menstrual cycle can trigger a migraine, is this also down to an oversensitivity?. Psoriasis is known to be treated by sunlight, melatonin is inhibited by sunlight. My rhinitis problems are worst in the early hours of the morning (after melatonin peaks)and when i get up in the morning. If i sleep too long , my problems are worse. I noticed something very strange abou a year ago, I was given amitryptilline (a tricyclic antidepressant)to treat irritable bowel syndrom. It completely cured all my problems. I felt great, sense of smell returned, rhinitis problems disappeared etc. This success lasted for 6 months and then my problems returned. I tried a few different antidepressent drugs immediately after with no success. 6 months later i tried amitryptilline again, it worked again, this time for only 1-2 months. My specialist do not know why it worked (in fact i'm not even sure that they believe me)They suggest that amitryptilline has antihistamine effects (but why then would antihistamines on their own have absolutely no effect?). Lots of antidepressants do get involved with serotonin....could this have anything to do with it? Can anyone suggest how we could make this site easier to find. I have seriously trawled the net for years without finding it,i am sure there are others out there? Does anyone know how we could go about setting up some kind of database that we could insert information into. For example it would be good to see at a glance how many people have had successful long term desensitisations, how many react to paracetamol (an over the counter pain killer in uk-called something different in america..it is a weak cox inhibitor)?, how many have serotonin/melatonin related disorders e.g migraine, psoriasis, ibs, compulsive obsesive disorder, depression etc? How many get itchy ears? How many have polyps in ears and how long it took before you got them? and so on.

Most of the things you have mentioned could be squeezed in there somewhere, but I agree, there's a potential to expand it and better organize it. regards, Ken West
