RE: Raise awareness about samter's

I receive a weekly newsletter from the ABC regarding health and

diet so yesterday I emailed them and asked if they could possibly look into

Samters even if it’s just to mention it in their newsletters.  I have

previously approached 60 Minutes but unfortunately received no response.

Perhaps if we all contacted our local media something may

possibly be achieved.

Subject: Raise awareness about samter's

Hi all

I was thinking what can we do to raise awareness about samter's and let other

sufferers know about our group?

Any thoughts?

Hi Buck,

best of luck for your first sinus/polyp surgery.

Thanks for your positive feedback for this group :-)

Subject: First Polyp Surgery Scheduled for Next Week

I met with the surgeon yesterday and

scheduled my first polyp surgery for next Friday (3 Sep).

My first stop after the surgeon's office was here at the Samter's discussion

group to refresh myself regarding the pre-surgical recommendations made here.

After less than an hour reviewing the messages I was well-informed about how

to prepare and what to expect.

I'd like to thank all of you for your efforts to get the info out regarding

Samter's. If I don't contribute much, it's really because I have nothing to

add that hasn't already been better expressed by others more knowledgeable.

So thanks for the education. If it weren't for this group I'd be almost

completely ignorant about my condition.

I'll let you all know how the surgery goes.

Buck

I have a little bit of experience in industrial PR which is a bit easier than general news media. In most cases the stories you here on the news or the radio are written by someone and picked up by the producers of the media. No longer do they employ many " journalists " that are looking for stories, they watch the feeds and pick up stories from people who's job it is to reach out to the media (PR Firms). If one wanted the media to pick up the story regarding Samters, one would need to write a story that has a compelling " hook " so that those in the media might choose it from the sea of stories that they are bombarded with. A PR manager's job is to write the story with the right angle in mind (experience is valuable here), the story might be written by a writer for about $2-3 per word, and " pitch " it to the media. If the story is compelling enough, the news media may pick up on it or one could actually produce a b-roll film clip and " pitch " the story to the TV media media. Video is very expensive to produce so that's probably out.

Having said all of that, individuals can create PR buzz. The same steps need to be followed but the individuals need to put in the time to do it.
