Guest guest
Hi all, My husband had his surgery at Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia on 8/28. He had a laminectomy on vertebra C3 through C7. He has a 9 " incision. He was out of bed the second day and walked the hall with a walker. He has to wear a " Miami-J collar for 6-8 weeks (24 hrs day), no driving for 6 months, and restrict even being a pessenger in a vehicle to going to/from dr. appts while in the collar. He already notices great improvement in his stability and much less numbness and tingling in his arms and hands. He was in the hospital for 5-1/2 days (only because we pushed to keep him in over the Labor Day holiday) and got 3 physical therapy sessions in while in the hospital, enough to send him directly home in lieu of transferring him to an in-patinet rehab facility (which our health plan would not pay for anyway). He is getting home care visits 2X a week by a nurse and a physical therapist which may only last for 2-3 weeks. I am playing nurse maid for two weeks, then back to work. Next week I will be working with him to get around independently. If anyone has any questions concerning this precedures and recovery, feel free to ask.
