Guest guest
Many mouthwashes contain other ingredients that may be irritating. Thorough rinsing may preclude this. Disinfecting is this okay? Hi All, Question: Every night I disinfect my NeilMed Sinus Rinse bottle by giving it a thorough swish of mouthwash. I rinse the bottle out really well before my sinus rinse. Can anybody tell me that I should not do this (and why)? Is it any more toxic than using alcohol to rinse the bottle? Guest guest
I dont know about mouthwash, but it was recommended to me to use Grapefruit Seed Extract. It is a natural antibacterial. In fact, my doctor recommends putting a few drops of it in your solution that you irrigate with. I do think this helps. You can get it at a health food store or I can give you the number to an Environmental company here in Denver, Colorado that you can order it from. Guest guest
yes my ent reccommended grapefruit extract to me as well. it is also an anti-fungal which is good for us. a good brand is by nutribiotic. there is also something called argumax sold at www.nationalallergysupply.com (by the way this an excellent place to buy sinus and allergy products) that is a combo of grapefruit seed and other antibacterials that is reccommended to put in irrigation solution. as for cleaning my irrigator, i sometimes run mine through the dishwasher. > Hi All, > > Question: Every night I disinfect my NeilMed Sinus Rinse bottle by giving it a thorough swish of mouthwash. Guest guest
I would think if your bottle is very well rinsed after the mouthwash it should be fine. The main issue would be burning I would think more than anything because even if there is a little bit of residue, it would be very dilute when you next irrigated. While I don’t necessarily endorse this practice for everyone, all I do to clean my Waterpik is rinse it with a full reservoir of warm tap water after I use it to irrigate. I irrigate twice a day. There was a discussion about this at some point in the past, both the disinfecting and using straight, unfiltered, not boiled tap water. I have cleaned my Waterpik a total of once with a small amount of bleach and that was after having used it twice a day for over a year. So my personal opinion is if whatever you are doing works, stick to it. I don’t tend to be overly paranoid about germs and I don’t tend to get sick so I am not going to start over sanitizing things. I have had 2 sinus infections that I can recall since starting with the Waterpik and they were exactly one year apart, to within like 2 days, which makes me think they were seasonal and not related to anything else I was doing. I don’t recall having a cold in that time period or any other illness. K. Disinfecting is this okay?
