Guest guest
Use baby aspirin. 81 MG and any multiple of that. I was actually started on 1/4 of a baby aspirin. I just had the worst aspirin reaction in years Hi all I started aspirin desensitization yesterday, but I couldn't split the 500 mg tablet properly so I thought of dissolving half (250mg) in 10 ml of water. Needless to say it didn't dissolve at all, but formed a suspension. I started with 1 ml, doubling the dosage at half an hour. At 23 last night I administered the 4th doze, approximately 4 ml, but due to the fact that the tablet wasn't dissolved properly, the first three doses were very diluted, so most of the ASA remained in the what water was left in the syringe, 5 ml. So when I took the last 4 ml I ingested almost the whole quantity. In 20 min I felt something was wrong, started to have itches and running nose. 10 minutes later I couldn't breathe at all on my nose. An hour later since it started the asthma kicked in, wheezing, congestion, etc. I barely could fell asleep at 6 am this morning. Now I'm exhausted from the asthma and lack of sleep. Even though this happen I really really want to go through this. I can't find anywhere 325 mg ASA only the 500 mg and 100 mg enteric kind. So I have to split the 500 mg somehow. Can you guys give me some hints on how to do this? Mostly I want to avoid any further complications. I have prepared myself and bought today some hydrocortisone and have venous access in case something goes wrong. Thank you, Sergiu

Guest guest
Sergiu, Your self-desense accident is unfortunate but, on the experimental side of things, at least you know what your reaction to 250mg of aspirin looks like. When using solutions, e.g. for nebulizing, irrigation etc, always shake them before use to make sure the concentration is homogeneous. There have been a lot of posts here on self-desense (pros and cons) and how to do it if you decide to. You may want to have to a look at them before your second attempt because, as you have seen, the procedure is potentially dangerous. In fact, a few members of this group have been rushed to the ER in the process. Also, if you don't have one already, there are several models of pill splitters for sale online. > > Hi all > > I started aspirin desensitization yesterday, but I couldn't split the 500 mg tablet properly so I thought of dissolving half (250mg) in 10 ml of water. Guest guest
Hi Sergiu/ -- apologies if this is a FAQ, but could you point me to some documentation on self-administered desensitization? Are there any general guidelines on dosages, frequency, and after-care?Thanks,Norbert On Wed, Jun 9, 2010 at 12:38 PM, HardKorn <sergiu_labo@...> wrote: I can't find baby aspirin as well. > > > > > Use baby aspirin. 81 MG and any multiple of that. > > I was actually started on 1/4 of a baby aspirin. > > > > > > > > > I just had the worst aspirin reaction in years > > > > > > Hi all > > I started aspirin desensitization yesterday, but I couldn't split the 500 mg tablet properly so I thought of dissolving half (250mg) in 10 ml of water. Guest guest
I'm just decreasing my dose for 2 weeks before I have an operation, then I'll go back up again. I'm not sure how I'll do that yet, but I'll see my allergist the same time as my ENT surgeon so will chat about it then. I was considering stopping and giving myself a break, but after a few days on a salicylate-free diet, I am now appreciating the worth of aspirin desens all over again lol! Guest guest
NorbertI gave you the wrong link. The Files section is the one you need to check. And especially the Desensitization-v3-A Primer for ASA Desensitization. There is lots of other useful information.Sergiu> > > >> > > >> > > >> > > >> > > > Use baby aspirin. 81 MG and any multiple of that.> > > >> > > > I was actually started on 1/4 of a baby aspirin.> > > >> > > > > > > >> > > >> > > >> > > >> > > >> > > >> > > > I just had the worst aspirin reaction in years> > > >> > > >> > > >> > > >> > > >> > > > Hi all> > > >> > > > I started aspirin desensitization yesterday, but I couldn't split> the 500> > > mg tablet properly so I thought of dissolving half (250mg) in 10 ml> of> > > water. Guest guest
Becky- I convinced my ENT to do my last surgery while I was on aspirin. He talked to several doctors (names came from members of this group!) and decided we could do it. I went down to 350mg a day for the week before surgery. Then I did not take aspirin the day before or the day of surgery. I went back up to 350mg for about a week and a half after surgery and then back to my regular dose of 1300mg. It worked out very well. My ENT even said he could not tell that I was on aspirin and that the bleeding was really no different than anybody else. FYI- My allergist was against this. He wanted me to go completely off aspirin before the surgery and be re-desensitized (for free) after surgery. He was very happy that it didn't seem to make much of a difference.
