Dear Jane

We do drink kefir around this part of the world (Turkey) to

boost immunity, ccand it is very beneficial in fighting off infections, as a probiotic.

I have also heard from people who have had cancer that it is very helpful in the

treatment of cancer. Highly recommended…

kephir against Bacillus subtilis spp. spizizenii ATCC 6633, Staphylococcus

aureus ATCC 6538, Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212, Escherichia coli ATCC

8739, Salmonella enteritidis ATCC 13076, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 9027 and

Candida albicans ATCC 10231. The kephir fermented for 24 h and

48 h, as well and after 7 days preservation at 4-8 °C was tested by

in vitro disk diffusion method. The intensity of the antimicrobial

activity was interpreted by comparison with two antibiotics, i.e. ampicillin

and neomycin.

RESULTS:

The antimicrobial activity of 24 h as well as 48 fermented kephir,

fresh or after 7 days preservation at 4-8 °C was similar and observed

against B. subtilis, S. aureus, E. coli, E. faecalis and

S. enteritidis. For E. coli, E. faecalis and

S. enteritidis the antimicrobial activity was superior to both tested

antibiotics and for B. subtilis and S. aureus to one antibiotic.

The tested products exhibited no activity against P. aeruginosa

and C. albicans.

CONCLUSION:

Kephir is exhibiting large spectrum and strong antibacterial activity

probably due to the complex viable probiotic strains association producing

antimicrobial substances.

It tastes similar to unsweatened yogurt. I got used to it in

about a week. It did help my immunity. I got ill and needed antibiotic

treatment only once this winter.  Worth a try…

This means that Kefir has some antimicrobial activity through direct contact

with germs (ie as in contact within the gut). It may also have immune-boosting

capacity, but it is not the subject of this abstract.

Thank you. I may have to finally try Kefir. I am all for boosting my immunity any way I can. I've had too many sinus infections again and seem to live on and off of antibiotics! This means that Kefir has some antimicrobial activity through direct contact with germs (ie as in contact within the gut). It may also have immune-boosting capacity, but it is not the subject of this abstract.

My husband was drinking kefir for a while for its beneficial ingredients, but now is avoiding all dairy products because the pro's don't seem to outweigh the con's. Ginseng can be found at a number of stores, but there is a difference between

American Ginseng and Korean Ginseng (Panax Ginseng), with Korean Ginseng being

the most studied and recommended. Then, there are two types of Korean Ginseng :

white and red. The white one is the standard grade, while the red one is aged

5-6 years, has been processed, and is traditionally much more valued because it

is richer in active elements. The usual advice with ginseng is to begin with a

3-week cure of a gram every morning before breakfast, either pure or in a drink,

and then have at least a 3-week pause before considering another try.

Ginseng can be found at a number of stores, but there is a difference between American Ginseng and Korean Ginseng (Panax Ginseng), with Korean Ginseng being the most studied and recommended. Then, there are two types of Korean Ginseng : white and red. The white one is the standard grade, while the red one is aged 5-6 years, has been processed, and is traditionally much more valued because it is richer in active elements. The usual advice with ginseng is to begin with a 3-week cure of a gram every morning before breakfast, either pure or in a drink, and then have at least a 3-week pause before considering another try.

Yes, thanks. I’ve got broccoli cooking for dinner and am going to start snacking on ginseng for breakfast. Jane,It's just that I have seen this advice repeatedly and I believe it is traditional advice.
