So when NAA sells items with that design do you guys have explicit permission from ASA to sell those things? Many organizations use that design. Legally should they be getting permission prior to putting their organization name on something say a t-shirt along with the ASA copyrighted puzzle ribbon design? I'm curious now. See, we had all been using the ribbon, myself back in 1998 and others earlier than that, but ASA filed for copyright saying they invented it several years later than we had pictures of us using it. They never told anyone that they applied for copyright until the deadline for opposition had passed so no one could do anything about it. But, hey, they are the " people's autism group " right??? Today, they're suing small companies...forcing them to settle out of court, for the privilege of selling goods online. They're going after low hanging fruit to build a large number of cases for legal precedent. The makers of them is a company called Magnet America and their website is: http://www.magnetamerica.com/. As to the ASA copyrighting the ribbon well, I have been using that ribbon on my return address labels, my letterhead, my group, my website and my personal business cards and I don't plan to stop now. JR (my 8 year old son) was diagnosed in 2000. They didn't copyright the ribbon until 2004 (I think). I was told by Jeff Sell (Director of Chapters & Membership for the ASA) the reason they copywrote it to begin with is that other organizations (a gay rights group) was using it. I never saw it anywhere other than as it related to autism. They can copyright all they want. I am not changing anything now after almost 6 years. Besides the ASA hasn't done a damn thing to help my son so why should I care what they want? I personally thought it was a good idea to get a copyright so that it was not done by someone outside of the ASD commmunity. Yep I too made about 5,000 cloth ribbons, continue to make them...no joke we've made a huge amount. Too when the copyright was first obtained there was much controversy, however that seems to be over due to the person having had some discussions about this being gone. I agree that all agencies should be able to use this for the same reason, autism awareness. To I have yet to hear about ASA coming after someone for using it improperly. Their main concern, from what I remember was losing the design to another non-ASD group or having someone make funds off the design where it did not benefit the ASD community. Now I could be wrong, but that is what I've been told. Too in all of this we are members of many organizations that represent the ASD community. Have been for years. I support ASA national for my own personal reasons and I honor folks that have opinions otherwise. But my personal belief too is that I try to work toward change and to try to bring us together. We've been told so many times by legislators that the ASD community is to so divided it will be difficult to get things done. But that too is subjective I guess. I have been doing very well all winter.............enjoyed having taste and smell, no congestion, no sinus infections, and hardly ever had to blow my nose. We have now turned on the air conditioner, and I've lost my taste and smell, am really congested in the morning, polyps are swollen and aggrevated, and I blow my nose all day long. I suspected that it was the dust that is stirred up by the moving air and also circulated from the filter (they are rarely cleaned). Also, until I used a mattress protector (allergy one) I would wake up at night with asthma. The culprit was dust mite, so I suspect that dust mites (or bits of them) are circulated with air-conditioning. Sudden increases or decreases in temperature can also set off symptoms - moving into an air-conditioned room could be upsetting you too. We live in a house without soft furnishings (no drapes, no rugs, leather furniture) so there is less opportunity for dust to settle and linger. I found that ceiling fans were enough to get my symptoms flaring - a little bit of dust in the air was enough. In Autumn/Fall I would get worse too - this is caused by molds that grow on dead/dry grass. After many tests, my immunologist agrees with me that I react to particulates and that the size and shape of the particles is probably more important than what they are. I'm not allergic to anything (other than aspirin) but do get an inflammatory response to lots of things. None of this makes life easy, does it? cheers Beverley > > Hello, everyone. Since I have turned on the A/C congested in the morning, polyps are up, head and face hurts. I'm Allergic to Mold, Dog, Ragweed, Asperin, PNC, NSAID.
