I became pregnant through invitro fertilization having experience infertility for 2 years. That was 15 years ago. Very early on in my pregnancy (literally within 2 weeks – as I knew exactly what day I became pregnant on) my sense of smell returned and disappeared by the time I was able to bring my premature babies home from the hospital (about 1 month after delivery). For some reason I was grateful to not be able to smell those stinky diapers J I also had no nasal congestion throughout my pregnancy although everything else was swollen! My sense of smell came completely back-SUDDENLY- sometime in the early months, and faded away days after delivery. It was wierd. The only time in 20 or so years that I could smell anything consistantly. (I can sometimes catch fleeting whiffs when on prednisone, but unreliable and doesn't last) But being pregnant is about the time when it would be nice to NOT be able to smell, since I had 24-hour morning sickness the entire time also- and smells can make one queasy at times!
