Guest guest
Hi ie, I desensed in December and have put on a few pounds...but not near 20. I am attributing my weight gain to my new found ability to smell and therefore taste! (read here, I am eating more!) I am taking Ranitidine (Zantac) so I'm not sure if that is the same as Aciphex. Never connected the weight gain to the new medications but now I'm curious.... > > Has anyone else experienced weight gain after going through ASA desen. Guest guest
Hi ie, I have experienced weight gain after desensitization and I think it is due to both age and the side effects of the aspirin. Aspirin helped me sleep through the night and have far fewer asthma attacks. Over all I am healthier and more relaxed. That burns fewer calories. I am 43 and trying to accept that everyone gets thicker in the waist as they get older. I also remind myself that the elderly look really fragile when they are thin. So, adjust your eating habits, walk longer and faster, feel healthy. Guest guest
I am surprised to hear that Aspirin might lead you to gain weight as trainers have it in vitamin cocktails as part of a metabolism booster. Also, sleeping more regularly should stabilize your weight. Being tired makes you reach for food for energy more often. Stress supposedly makes it more difficult to lose weight as it messes with your insulin. I think maybe one of the things we are all dealing with is the after-effects of any cortisone on our metabolism. It really screws it up and is difficult to get back on track. I watched my mother in law go in and out of a diabetic state from the cortisone, get cataracts, have to change her eye glass prescriptions every few months and shrink 4 inches (rapid osteoporosis) in a year from the use of prednisone for her asthma. It is what prompted me to become more proactive towards getting my health on track and figuring out what to do with my samters. It has been wonderful to find people who are going through this although I wouldn’t want anyone else to deal with it. I hope this information helps. It has been very helpful to me to hear what has worked and not worked for others. Guest guest
Hi all, I've found that aspirin has helped me lose weight. When I started feeling better after desens (2003), I started exercising regularly and eating less. It has resulted in my losing 20 pounds and feeling even better as a result. Before desens my glucose tolerance test showed I was headed toward diabetes. I've now gotten it down to normal and reduced my cholesterol also. For me, not being able to taste actually caused me to eat more -I'm not sure why. I think it was just more difficult to get satisfied without enjoying taste and smell. I also feel that it led to mild depression -causing me to eat more and exercise less. If aspirin causes weight gain, it must not be as bad as eating more and exercising less.
