Guest guest
HI Cathie, Welcome to the list! I was curious to see that you mentioned your son taking Zyrtec. My daughter takes it occasionally for allergies, but only when she is symptomatic. We use it primarily as an antihistimine, because it is compatible with the Prozac that she takes daily for her OCD. Was taking Zyrtec for allergies, as well? My daughter, andra, is six and is also in first grade. Take care, Lesli (Bay Area)
Guest guest
, Oops..... My hall closet (locked up) is a miniature pharmacy. I meant Zoloft, not Zyrtec. Although he has taken Zyrtec for allergies . Cathie
Guest guest
It may just be drying her out too much. My non pid but allergy prone 12 year old daughter gets this frequently. We were told to use saline drops in the nose. Some people have the blood vessels very close to the surface in their nose, and then they get nose bleeds when their nose gets too dry. Usually Kaila gets them in the winter, but I'm guessing that the Zyrtec is probably really drying Tabitha out with the increase in doseage. Guest guest
I have been on Zyrtec for 4 years now without any of the side effects other than dehydration - typical to all antihystaminics I believe. As many of us may incur, I really need to be on it from time to time. More often when I'm tired. I often have these allergy-type reactions that are not allergies as such and requiring me to take something otherwise I feel most miserable from sneezing, etc. I cannot count how many wasted night-outs from those reactions and not having a zyrtec. There is a cheaper generic here in Switzerland called "Cetallerg". I was previously on Allegra for more than 10 years. Zyrtec seems to be a preferred choice among the ENT's I've consulted here in Switzerland. It was allowed during my 2 recent pregnancies. Lori Baur <lori@...> wrote: , is Zyrtec one of the ones that make you drowsy or not? I take Claritin and it seems to help a lot with sneezing and itchy eyes and other itchy allergy type of symptoms. I have never taken Zyrtec. One of the reasons I like Claritin is it doesn't make me more drowsy than usual (I'm kind of drowsy all the time, but that's whether I take the Claritin or not) and of course it's pretty cheap now (I got a year's supply for like 40 or 60 bucks from Costco). Anyway just wondering about Zyrtec. Lori The all-new goes wherever you go - free your email address from your Internet provider.
Guest guest
Zyrtec (Reactin in Canada) is cetirizene hydrochloride, and is the best anti-histimine that I have used -- better than Claritin, for sure. I take it whenever I start sneezing or experience other symptoms of rhinitis. This is about 3x per week for me. If I take it in time, I can head off the subsequent asthma-like symptoms that usually follow the sneezing. http://psychcentral.com/meds/zyrtec.htm > From: michele <truekindandhappy@...> > > Has anyone tried Zyrtec? Guest guest
Great! Thank you! Maybe I'll ask my doctor for some of this... and see if I can get some good results. Somebody else recommended it to me. They said they were on Singulair but now take both. Guest guest
I have been taking daily Singulair (20mg) and Zyrtec (twice a day) for many years now. Zyrtec was even allowed while pregnant. My immunologist is fine with it and recommends it saying it should not have in my case significant long term side effects. If I do not take zyrtec, i can become so miserable with the sneezing episodes starting any time - although this happens randomly at the most unpredictable times. Good luck Anne Re: Zyrtec Great! Guest guest
Hello, I am being treated for Samter's (well not really because all my former ENT did was put me on Nasocort AQ) but haven't done a ton of research for lack of time. I am now OUT of the Nasocort and can't get into the new ENT until the 6th of August. I have read a bunch of these threads and I'm wondering if any of you who are using the Zyrtec with the additional supplements have found a difference between using Zyrtec or Zyrtec D? I use Zyrtec D quite regularly and wonderend if it still made sense if I start the supplements as well. Thank you,
Guest guest
I just started Zyrtec -- take one in the evening as it makes me sleepy. I tried taking half of one, but it didn't do any good. Haven't tried Zyrtec-D -- I assume it doesn't make you as drowsy as it has pseudoephedrine i I'm taking the Clearease enzymes, but don't think they do much. Also taking NAC -- again, not sure it does much. I'm wondering if anyone's had any side effects from Zyrtec -- I think I read that if you stop taking it you itch terribly.
