Today I saw an ENT Dr who had a look into my sinuses to give me the latest

update. As I have just started taking a course of steroids which has yet to

start working, my sinuses were full of large crusty crusts which were blocking

my frontals so preventing any of the gunk coming out of my frontals...and also

preventing me from having a sos. I hope eventualy these crusts will come out as

they mostly do at the end of a course of steroids so my sinuses can empty out

and I can have a sos for a few days before the whole cycle starts again. This

ENT suggested I went on a salicylate free/low sal diet even though I am desens,

and he just shrugged when I said it is these crusty plaques that I find so

difficult to get out of my nose. He said that's the trouble with Samters is that

it's a choice between lots of steroids of surgery, and both have a detrimental

effect on our bodies. I felt like saying 'well shoot me now!'

I know I'm heading for more surgery now, but I feel quite dispondant that I cant

break this cycle that i am in, (and have been in for the last 9+ years post

surgery) no matter how much sinus washing i do, as soon as I finish a course of

steroids the plaques start coming back. My ENT didn't seem to think that

infection was the main cause of inlfamation and the crusties, but eating too

many salycilates. i just feel I have to disagree!! i felt like he was

patronising me and not really listening to me...which I guess is why I am having

further investigations in Cambridge and not here where I live.

I am also upset as my 13 year old daughter needs a sinus operation too. Not a

great start for her :(

Sorry to be a misery guts, just sounding off and I expect i'll not feel so

emotionally bad and just get on with things again tomorrow.
