I am going in for my 3rd surgery at 6 AM this morning. I've been reading and

reading past posts, but if you have any hints, tricks, or comments for recovery,

I would love to hear them.

Thanks!

Christy,

Ask for preventive antibiotherapy post-op, eg 2-3 weeks ; wash your hands and

disinfect thoroughly your irrigation device before irrigating. Do not put your

hands to your nose, use a kleenex. Stay warm, avoid germs. If necessary, drain

by gravity (lean forward).

Good luck!

Great advice Asfy, and best of luck Christy.

Let us know how you recover - I have this op in 1 month.

Becky,

you can start the antibiotherapy 1 week prior to surgery if both the surgeon and

the anaesthesist are ok.

Asfy,

By this do you mean taking a course of antibiotics? Which ones would be best?

Good luck, Christy!

The hardest thing for me after surgeries is 1) not yanking the packing out, and

2) not blowing my nose for the recommended period after surgery. But not

everyone has the kind of packing I've had, so hopefully that's not a big issue

for you. I have found it's important not to blow my nose too soon afterwards re:

bleeding, but once it's ok, to rinse gently and religiously with clean

equipment. And take it easy with the moving and bending.

Hope this brings you good relief once you're thru recovery.

Best Wishes,

Ernie

Any broad-spectrum antibiotic will do, but your ENT will advise you best on

this.

So the surgery went well. My ENT said he didn't have any problems with bleeding

even though I have been taking aspirin. I dropped down to 325mg a week before

surgery and did not take it the day before and the day of surgery. He said he

couldn't even tell I'd been taking aspirin.

I am rinsing every hour or two. This was the first time I've had polyps removed

from my frontals, so my forehead is a bit sore. I had to ask for an antibiotic

(he gave me amoxicillin) as preventative meds. My ENT really didn't think I

needed it, but gave me a script anyway.

I was anticipating a longer recovery, but 24 hours after surgery I was feeling

great. I'll rest all day on Mother's Day and head back to work tomorrow.

Hopefully, with a clean slate and aspirin therapy, it will be a while before I

have to do this all again.

Thanks for all the well wishes. So glad I found this group!

Hi Christy,

it's great to hear that your surgery went well.

I hope you do get a chance to take things a bit easy over the next week or so.
