Guest guest
Hi all,Am still taking the aspirin and definitely feeling the benefits but one drawback is that I have increased tinnitus in my right ear which usually comes on or gets worse after the second 300mg dose in the afternoon/evening. It's more of a thumping than the usual high pitched ring, which I'm guessing might be increased blood pressure with the higher dose.Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks,
Guest guest
Ask your ENT to check your Eustachian tubes and ear canal to see if there's an infection. Sinus infections are not uncommon to extend to the medium-inner ear which can cause the tinnitus. Also the aspirin can cause some degree of toxicity.Early symptoms of aspirin toxicity include tinnitus, fever, vertigo, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea; more severe intoxication can cause altered mental status, coma, noncardiac pulmonary edema, and death. Aspirin toxicity is associated with several clinical and laboratory findings.Tinnitus — Salicylates commonly cause tinnitus, and they may do so at levels within the therapeutic range (20 mg/dL [1.5 mmol/L]). This symptom should be specifically sought in all patients with potential aspirin toxicity.Aspirin or other salicylates can also cause hearing loss, but this is reversible with discontinuation of the drug. The etiology is believed to be enzymatic inhibition; thus, very high doses (6 to 8 grams/day) are required to cause ototoxicity. You might need to adjust the aspirin dose and see if the tinnitus goes away. How much aspirin are you taking? 600 mg/2x/day? Try to decrease it to 500 mg/day(you'll stay desensitized) in one or two takes and see if the tinnitus ameliorates. I personally feel much better if I take the whole 500 mg once/day instead 2x/day. My stomach aches/burns are gone. Weird, but this what I've experienced. Probably the time the aspirin stays in the digestive tract is shorter then when taking it 2x/day and it isn't so damaging. You might want to try it yourself for your tinnitus. It might help.SergiuFrom: Whitbread <sarahwhitbread@...>Subject: Aspirin and Tinnitussamters Date: Friday, August 20, 2010, 1:37 AM Hi all,Am still taking the aspirin and definitely feeling the benefits but one drawback is that I have increased tinnitus in my right ear which usually comes on or gets worse after the second 300mg dose in the afternoon/evening. Guest guest
Sergiu,Thanks, I think it is probably due to the aspirin dosage rather than any infection as I'm feeling much clearer now compared to my pre-op self. But I'll suggest it to the ENT in case. I'm on 300mg soluble twice a day, and I'll try to vary the times I take each dose and see if that helps. At the moment I'm taking one with breakfast and one after lunch, but I only really experience an increase in tinnitus after the second dose. Thanks again,From: Sergiu Labo <sergiu_labo@...>samters Sent: Thu, August 19, 2010 11:56:58 PMSubject: Re: Aspirin and Tinnitus Ask your ENT to check your Eustachian tubes and ear canal to see if there's an infection.
