Guest guest
I had densensitization at s Hopkins last Jan without sinus surgery prior to the procedure and I will just say, it was not a pleasant experiece. Because my sinsuses were so " volatile " since they were completely full of polyps, I reacted serverely to all the ASA doses and developed a major sinus infection. After a CT scan, radiology and ENT were concerned the infection had moved into my facial bones. It did not, thank goodness and sugery was performed last July. I reacted well to an eight week course of antifungal after surgery since the polyps returned within two weeks, although I did not have any sign of fungal sinusitis the drug had promising results at MAYO. After eight weeks of Lamisil, I was told to take a two week " drug holiday " and the polyps returned within 10 days. It took office debridements, and Kenalog injections into the sinuses to get me to Scripps in a pristine condition this past April. And all went smoothly. Dr. son was grateful for the work ENT performed since it made the desensitization much less eventful on his end. Guest guest
I want to know if anyone was taking Prednisone before the Aspirin Desensitization. And how long after the Aspirin Desensitization did you stop taking the Prednisone? Thanks- Rex
Guest guest
I have taken Prednisone before desensitization. My experience was that it greatly reduced the reaction, and made the process less challenging. I think, however, that there have been previous posts on this which question this observation. (note that my desensitizations have been self-adminstered.) I think most would agree, it can't hurt. I wound down the prednisone as soon as desensitization was achieved, ie, in about 3 days. regards, Ken West 416 654 1398 > From: Rex Young <rex@...> > Reply-samters > Date: Sun, 27 Jun 2004 09:03:15 -0700 > <samters > > Subject: Aspirin Desensitization: Pre or post op > > > > I want to know if anyone was taking Prednisone before the Aspirin > Desensitization. Guest guest
I, too, have taken prednisone before desensitization. I had to be on it (50 milligrams a day at the time) to control my asthma. At Scripps they will not let you into the study unless your asthma is under control, and for me that took high doses of prednisone. As soon as I was desensitized I was weaned off the steroids and for the most part have rarely needed to be on steroids (and never at high doses for any prolonged period of time) in the last nine years, seven of which I was on the aspirin for, the last two I have not been. I attribute this to both the aspirin desensitization and the advent of new medications such as Advair and Singulair. Hope this helps, Lori
