I had redeveloped polyps and my sense of smell was gone again. Instead of surgery, my new doctor at the U of Minnesota prescribed a short burst of prednisone followed by daily nebulizing of Budesonide (pulmicort respules). So far so good, no polyp re-growth and my sense of smell is steady. The nebulizer only takes 2 minutes each time. Google Nasoneb and you can read all about it.
