I haven't been on this site much in the last two years, but I remember you well.

Yeah, I had an infection from August 08 thru April 09 but my ENT kept culturing me and found different bacterium each time. So the antibiotics got changed up a lot. I know how rough it is. Once I quit caregiving my infant niece and nephew I cleared. Since Samters, I wash my hands on average every 10 minutes during the day so still don't know if it was exposure in the house or babies but....

I'm not....I know antibiotics help, but they have not yet fully cleared an infection. I use 2 different antibiotics almost continuously - one for a couple of weeks then another for a month and then back again. If i stop using antibiotics for even a few days then my sinus infection becomes almost unmanageable.

I hate having to take antibiotics, but I'm not sue what else to do. I rinse my sinuses out and use steroids regularly. I've even been desens to aspirin. It's all very frustrating.

I've been a Samters patient since 1996 and have had many, many infections--

In the last month or so, I've read several different articles where the doctors are saying-emphatically -not to bother with antibiotic use because they are unsuccessful in treating sinus infection.

My experience has been consistent. Occassionally I can clear a mild infection with steroids. But severe infections or the more lethal bacteria (ecoli, pseudomonas aeruginosa, serratia, etc) have made me really sick and caused polyps to fully occlude my sinuses. But steroids and the right antibiotic have always cleared the infection (and usually shrunk the polyposis). There have been times when I've been too sick to walk and can't imagine a rinse being prescribed as the answer. I've spent fortunes in money and health with alternative treatments that just didn't work.

Are Samters patients being cut off from antibiotics with this line of thinking?

I'm worried.
