Becca, I had a polyp a few months ago (which i got after not rinsing or using sprays because my nose was so dry). But apparently at the last check-up it was gone.I am like you on 325 mg aspirin/day.To get rid of the polyp I used budesonide 2x day in the saline rinse and added a little baby shampoo each time (these were the instructions from my ENT).I also have been taking extremely high doses of Vit D -- 5000 mg 4x week, 10,000 mg 3x week (again under supervision from a health care person) and also very high doses of fish oil (820 mg DHA+EPA 3x day) and 1000 mg quercitin 2x day. Don't know which of these helped, but apparently something worked. Also someone recently told me that with Samter's we need DHA more than EPA -- don't know if this is true, but I thought I'd pass it on. My polyp seems to have disappeared and I'm down to 1/2 vial budesonide 1x day. My problem is again this terrible painful dryness and bleeding in my nose. Seems like I just can't win. Anyhow, good luck. All the best,JoanOn Aug 29, 2010, at 12:38 PM, wrote:

Becky, I guess I should stop complaining--I can still smell, which I guess is good when I'm doing things like sealing grout. I just got done with the first coat, and the fumes about knocked me over. I'd never know how blasted my brains were getting on those fumes if I couldn't smell, I guess.

Sergiu, I heard that flonase and nasonex worked pretty similarly, but I'd like to hear if others have had more success with nasonex?

I like to avoid prednisone at all costs. I was taking prednisone every 8-10 weeks for almost a year, and if I can suffer along without, I would prefer it. My allergist was very opposed to oral steroids, as is my ENT. I'll see what she says, too.

Thanks for the kind words. Oh well, I guess this is life for us. Perhaps it's not a polyp, but it really looks like one to me. It's way up in my nose, so maybe it's hard for me to see what it really is.

Cheers,

Becca

I can't speak for others, but for a guy that used everything, Rhinocort, Flixonase(Flonase) and Nasonex, I can vouch that has been a lot of improvement in keeping the little monsters down.:)SergiuFrom: <rebeebit@...>Subject: Re: New polyp...samters Date: Sunday, August 29, 2010, 9:38 PM

I'm using 's -- the standard baby shampoo.I've been using Arctic Oils 820 fish oil, 3x day. It has more EPA than DHA. It was someone else who said Omega 3's are needed rather than Omega 6's so I haven't really tried switching yet, but I did just buy some Carlson DHA Gems which have 500 mg DHA.On Aug 29, 2010, at 2:04 PM, Sergiu Labo wrote:

Hi Becca,That's bad luck. If it's any consolation I had my last surgery on 2nd July and was convinced I had at least one polyp reforming on my left side, I was sure I could see it. I visited the ENT this week for my checkup, and he said I have more cartilage there and this is what I can feel, so I am very relieved. It may not be as bad you're expecting.I have been using Avamys since my surgery, and it seems to be working, I think it is the same compound - or at least very similar - to fluticasone but the spray is dispersed in a more effective way, I have experienced less dryness and nosebleeds. How are you feeling now? From: <rebeebit@...>samters Sent: Sun, August 29, 2010 7:38:17 PMSubject: Re: New polyp...

,The budesonide comes in ampoules (?) in liquid form. My ENT had me add half a vial to each 8oz saline rinse (with the baby shampoo and salt packet) -- so I used one vial total per day. I think one could use a whole vial per rinse -- but my nose is so dry that I think he tried to avoid too much (many?) steroids. I'm now using 1/2 vial 1x per day, but don't know yet if it is effective. Good luck. I definitely think increasing Vit D and fish oil has helped me fight off infections if nothing else.JoanOn Sep 26, 2010, at 2:16 PM, Whitbread wrote:
