Guest guest
I have had hives/rash from the get go with this. The only thing that slows mine down is prednisone (and I have been on that for over 30 years for those who don't know my story) and vistaril. Mine are urticarial and it is a whole body type thing. Sometimes they are right under the skin and other times they are above the skin and large in diameter but regardless of above or underneath...they itch like the dickens. When I had my first anaphylactic shock reaction was the first time I ever had any kind of a rash/hives. With that episode, they started like a red dot, then spread out in irregular patterns, kinda like alligator skin. They were white in the middle with an irregular red ring around them. Some of them were 7-8 inches in diameter and some were only about a 1/2 inch...they progressed to being above the skin and were about 1/2 to 3 inches in diameter and some were 1 - 1 1/2 inches in height. Since that first outbreak I would have recurrent bouts with them practically every day until they put me on prednisone and vistaril. At this time, they are only fairly under control and if I don't take the prednisone (20 mgs. daily) and vistaril, they cover my whole body and stay that way for days on end. So, in my case the prednisone helps. I do have to say that avoiding foods, toiletries, perfumes and other things that have natural salicylates in them has helped too. I also have hives/rash whenever I take a shower or bath. One doctor called the rash I get after a shower " dermatographism " and called the other one " urticaria " . I think the rash/hives are a part of Samter's or any other eicosanoid imbalance disease as our eicosanoid pathway is out of kelter. And that pathway controls inflammation and allergies along with other things. I have been reading the posts about CSS with much interest. My doctor (years ago when I was first diagnosed) said that they were unsure whether the profound asthma sensitive allergy, recurrent urticaria, nasal polyposis, severe sinus disease and high eosinophil count were an allergic angiitis or another profound immunologic abnormality. Can you tell that I found some of my old medical records? ;-) Would all this go along with CSS? - New Mexico
