Guest guest
It's good that you got your SOS back. I envy you. I have been on Singulair for years and it has never done that for me. I also don't have any weight gain from it or the moon face. Actually as often as I have been on steroids I have never had that bloated look that long term steroid use can give. I don't really use steroids in high doses for long periods. It just seems like I have to be on them more than I should. I have had weight gain from steroid use because it seems to make me want to eat everything in sight. Ugh...I do notice if I go off Singulair my asthma gets worse. The only 2 things that have ever made a difference in me having a SOS smell has been steroids and one time after being on a course of Levaquin for an infection I got my SOS back for a bit. As a side note the steroids don't bring back my SOS every time. I have to have another surgery because my nasal polyps are out of control again so that may be why the SOS is not coming back with steroid use. This will be my 9th surgery. That sounds bad but it has been over 10 years since my last surgery so I consider that good. Evie -- Singulair or Zyflo Hi, just wondering if anyone has any advice for me. I went on Singulair last August and it has been amazing. It has been keeping polyps at bay and my sense of smell is back. the only problem is this...i have gained 15 lbs and my face has the moon face you get from steroids. after researching i see that both of these are complaints from singulair users. I am wondering if any here have ever switched to zyflo after using singulair and found it worked as well for them as the singulair. Weight gain and swelling are not listed as issues with zyflo however, i am aware that both drugs are different (although unsure technically how)and treat polyps different, both both seem to have success. Thanks in advance for any input.
Guest guest
I do feel singulair causes weight gain although it was a listed side effect. I did gain quite a bit of weight after being on it. I actually have lost about 50 lbs and am back down to thr weight i was prior to being on singulair (just realized that fact). Im still taking singulair and dont plan on switching because it does keep asthma and allergic reactions at bay. Although it hasnt helped my sleep pattern and i still have trouble sleeping. Most of the time i feel like im a walking zombie. I have not been on regular bouts of steroids because honestly i try to manage the disease without it. Ive only taken steroids around surgery time, and in my case ive only had 2 surgeries since i was diagnosed in 2005. Guest guest
I switched from Singulair (due to reactions) to Zyflo. The only reaction I reported to my doctor about Zyflo was 'weird dreams' which were just vivid dreams that seemed so real. I never remembered dreams for a very long time until on Zyflo. My doc said it is because I am actually getting to REM stage of sleep now and that is why I can now remember having dreams!!My lung function is up to 84% and Zyflo is also taken with my aspirin (desens'd as of 8/12/11). I do not have weight gain or any other side effect with the Zyflo.Good Luck! From: na <jmcwha@...>Subject: Singulair or ZyfloTo: samters Date: Tuesday, October 4, 2011, 4:35 AM Hi, just wondering if anyone has any advice for me. Guest guest
Thats interesting about your dreams. That alone may be a reason for me to try zyflo instead. Im sooooo tired. What do u or your doctor think is the reason for your better ability to sleep on zyflo? Any xomments or thoughts from anyone regarding what singulair does foe sleep patterns? Guest guest
I also had to stop taking Singulair about a year ago due to side effects, but couldn't take Zyflo because it gave me migraines. Unfortunately, my daily aspirin was not enough to keep the polyps away and I am heading back into my 9th surgery later this month. So discouraging. I may have to try Zyflo again.JaneFrom: na <jmcwha@...>Subject: Singulair or ZyfloTo: samters Date: Tuesday, October 4, 2011, 4:35 AM Hi, just wondering if anyone has any advice for me. Guest guest
My boyfriend switched to Zyflo last year and it has been very effective. Drawbacks: it's very expensive and you need to have you liver tested every few months. > > Hi, just wondering if anyone has any advice for me. I went on Singulair last August and it has been amazing. Guest guest
Jane, so sorry you are going to have to go back into surgery. What a drag. Just curious, did you try budesonide in your saline rinse for the polyps or nebulized sinus steroids -- some people have had good luck getting rid of polyps that way.On Oct 5, 2011, at 5:29 AM, Jane Marino wrote: I also had to stop taking Singulair about a year ago due to side effects, but couldn't take Zyflo because it gave me migraines. Guest guest
The most serious side effect of Zyflo is elevation of liver enzyme and while taking Zyflo you must be tested on a regular basis. After almost a year, so far so good. BTW.. he thinks Zyflo is what causes his sleepless nights.. but then again, he is on 50 other meds, soooo could be just about anything!! > > > > > > Hi, just wondering if anyone has any advice for me. Guest guest
,"Weird dreams" do not come because you sleep better, but because of the neurological effects of leukotriene suppression. I bet that those dreams will lessen in intensity or disappear if you lower the Zyflo dose (only if your doctor agrees!) I also had this when on excessive cromoglycate dosage and it disappeared immediately when I cut the dose.> > From: na jmcwha@...> Subject: Singulair or Zyflo> samters > Date: Tuesday, October 4, 2011, 4:35 AM> > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Â > > > > > > > > > > Hi, just wondering if anyone has any advice for me. Guest guest
I hadn't heard of hearing loss as a side effect from steroids in the saline rinse. Would this also be true of nebulized steroids? Budesonide is a steroid -- otherwise known as pulmicort. On Oct 5, 2011, at 5:19 PM, Jane Marino wrote: My ENT has been against putting steroids into my saline rinse because of possible hearing loss as a side effect. Guest guest
I am not sure Joan, but I will check with my ENT. I would try anything at this point. I feel like I need to be back on some type of an Leuketrine-inhibitor like Singulair or Zyflo, but I unfortunately react to both medications. So, I will have to check your recommendations with my doctor.JaneFrom: na <jmcwha@...>Subject: Singulair or Zyflosamters Date: Tuesday, October 4, 2011, 4:35 AM Hi, just wondering if anyone has any advice for me.
