zyflo availability in Canada

Hi group,

I rarely chime in because my symptoms have pretty much disappeared with

Zyflo. I'm planning a move to Montreal, however, and it seems that the

drug is unavailable in Canada. Has anyone had experience with Canadian

rules regarding getting over-the-border prescriptions? I would switch

to singulair, but the last time I tried it, it didn't have nearly the

same effect.

I don't know about over the border prescriptions. That's great the

Zyflo has helped. It is higher up in the leukotriene chain than the

Singulair. But if you can do consider taking a higher dose of

Singulair than the 10 milligrams a day. Their studies showed it to

be safe over the long term up to 50 miligrams a day and short term

much higher than that. I currently take 30 milligrams a day.

thanks, lori -- I definitely plan on trying such a strategy with my

doctor.

I was able to get stuff to Toronto from these guys

http://www.pharmacy-network.com/main.html

with no real problem, and pretty quick delivery.

Didn't seem to matter that it came from Brazil, rather than the U.S. or

whatever. This was for Prednisone, for which my doctors would not prescribe

any more (eg., for Christmas aromas). It seemed of good quality, and it

worked for me.

Unfortunately, I just checked and they don't seem to have Zyflo, nor is

there any mention of Zileuton, the generic name. If you have a

prescription, I'm sure that you could get delivery from one of the many

U.S.-based on-line pharmacies. If not, then you should be able to find

something like the one I used, eg, Europe-based.

And of course, now with your great endorsement of Zyflo, I'm curious to get

some. I'll follow up if I learn more, and perhaps you could do the same.

Et aussi -- bienvenue au Canada.

regards,

Thanks for the info from waaaay back when, Ken. (I only check in on

occasion) Yes, the combination of Zyflo, Nasacort, and a low fat diet

has restored my smell and shrunk the polyps down to nothing, as well as

fully restoring my breathing. The zyflo does most of the heavy lifting,

and in fact if I even delay the next pill by a few hours, i start to

feel congested again.

I'd love to switch to singulair or accolate, which are MUCH more

convenient to take, but I recently tried accolate and started sneezing

like it was 1999 within a few hours of missing the zyflo. So I know if

I move, to find it unavailable would be a showstopper. So I really have

to make sure I can get it.

I definitely recommend to all: Try just a week of the stuff. It's a

major pain in the ass (4 pills a day), but the effects have been

astounding for me. Is anyone else taking it? Just wondering.

Mike

So I guess the real question is, would a Canadian doctor prescribe

refills for something which isn't on the approved list?

I'm taking Zyflo and accolate together. I notice when I'm late on taking a dose, I also start getting some symtoms. I took zyflo alone and it didn't help me as much as taking it together with accolate. Taking them both are troublesome since accolate needs to be taken on an empty stomach 2 times a day and Zyflo works better with food 4 times a day. Have you been having your liver enzymes tested? I feel taking both have helped me quite a bit. Does anyone take Zyflo/accolate and had aspirin deses. I think maybe doing this would make things even better.

lori -- I have had the liver enzymes tested and everything's been fine

so far. They say that if there's gonna be a liver problem, it happens

soon after you start taking it, but then they check every once in a

while anyway, and it's very rare.

I wish the pill wasn't so giant! Maybe someone out there is working on

another thing in this class.

Do you use a spray too? I found that the spray had no effect pre-zyflo,

but now that the polyps are under control, it basically finishes the job

and reduces the inflammation just enough to restore smell. In other

words, zyflo and no nasacort, i stop sneezing and wheezing, but zyflo

with nasacort, suddenly the smell comes back. It's not 100% all the

time -- if I screw up and miss a dose of zyflo, or even go a few hours

extra, it takes that much time to get it back again. But every minute i

have it is wonderful.

Also I tried atkins a few times and the schnozz went to hell. I think

it's either the high fat content OR possibly too much iron, though I

don't know why.

I tried the zyflo accolate combo a few times and it did seem to help a

little, but the accolate didn't really do enough for me to make it worth

the hassle.

: Thanks, I'll try the nasal spray again, I did just give it up since, it wasn't really helping that much pre-zyflo. I'll let you know how it works. My smell is back a little since taking zyflo, but maybe with the nasal spay it will be better. Lori S.

zyflo is not a steroid, it's a leukotriene inhibitor... that means it

directly blocks the production of the immune system beasties that we're

sensitive to.

What is Zyflo? Does it have steroids in it? I have to tell everyone something. I still have my sense of smell. I don't take anything with steroids. I very seldom use nasal sprays. So far what I see different from me than most people in this group is I take Celebrex every day and I smoke (which I'm ashamed to admit, but who knows, all the poisons in cigarette smoke may be killing the polyps beside myself). When my polyps get out of control I have surgery. I also have my hearing which some people have problems with.
