I have several food allergies related to hay fever; I can't eat

melon, bananas, or avocato. I have have reactions to other fresh

fruit as well. I have difficulty with processed corn products -

tortilla chips etc., but I can eat fresh corn??? My reactions range

from oral allergy syndrome to vomiting to anaphylaxis. I often have

problems after eating in restaurants because I do not know all of

the ingredients.

I have never been tested; my allergist said that the tests produce

too many false positives. I just try to avoid foods that I know

cause a problem. All of the allergy meds that I take daily help to

control reactions when they happen. I also carry an epi-pen. My

reactions usually peak before my throat swells shut:) I have only

needed epinepherine once and fortunately that was in the allergist's

office.

Please be careful to avoid foods that cause a problem. Sometimes

reactions can be unpredictable.

I think, on some level, I don't realize how much I've restricted my

diet due to feeling badly. That's at least partially because my diet is

so restrictive to keep weight off post-prednisone. That said, there are

certain evil foods: ham steak (who knows?), corn products but not corn,

lettuce, raw garlic, raw or pickled ginger, pineapple, papaya, mango (I

used to work partially making smoothies in high school and I spent 8

months with a constant burn-like rash on my hands, despite gloves). Oh,

and coffee. Immediate asthma from coffee. Also, not a food, but I'm

beginning to suspect that my carpeting is the root of much evil.

Thanks , I think salicylates are getting me. So many things set me off. Though it might just be my severe sinus infection. I'm going to wait until after my surgery to see what happens. My allergist put me on a salicylate free

diet for nine weeks. It made absolutely no difference to my health though but

that was me.

The allergist told me that a blood test would

show any allergies (not the scratch test) to salicylates which is why I was

given that after the diet.

Still the same result.

gluten free and diary free - still no change.

Bearing in mind that beer and wine are high in salicylates I would predict those are the ones you react to and not vodka or sake.

Also if you are on anti-histimines you may get to reaction from anything.

I originally reacted to beer, then wine and now any alcohol basically. I never liked vodka so I wouldn't really drink that anyway, but whiskey, rum and any other alcohol I can think of really sets me off now. I don't drink at all anymore and feel much better for it.

When you say if you are on antihistamines you may get a reaction from anything, what exactly do you mean by that?

Hi Chris

Will you clarify the " Also if you are on anti-histimines you may get

to reaction from anything. " sentence.

I am interested, as I have today been put on anti-histimines to

reduce food/ointment allergies.

I have been plagued with asthma recently after eating cereals, high

grain breads, beer etc.

I am also interested in Anti-allergy Singulair which someone

mentioned was only available in the US?
