Guest guest
how much aspirin are you taking daily after you've been desensitized? Stacey Re: polyps asa desense I personally think being desensitized has changed my life!!I went through desensitization in 2006... prior to that I had 5 surgeries within 10 years. Probably was taking steroids and antibiotics on a monthly basis.I wouldn't say my sinuses are perfect, but I haven't needed surgery since then. My ENT says my sinuses are a "thing of beauty"... haha. I still require steroids and antibiotics... but only about ONCE a year! (Usually in the spring when my allergies get bad.)So, I'd say the difference is remarkable! Not to mention it has done wonders for my asthma. I use Symbicort on a daily basis, but I have no need for albuterol or neb treatments or anything! You'll never hear a wheeze come out of me!Kate>> I think we need to find a new name for polyps. I hate that word! Anyway, has anyone that has been desensitised noticed any decrease in polyp growth or inflamation?> Tami>
Guest guest
Are you polyp free? Re: polyps asa desense 1300 mg of enteric coated aspirin. This may seem like a lot... people are always asking if I have problems with my stomach or problems with clotting. Actually, I'm completely fine. I had to have a major intestinal surgery a couple years ago and the doctor didn't even have a problem with how much aspirin I was on. I've had endoscopies of my stomach, and its perfectly fine... no ulcers or anything. > > > > I think we need to find a new name for polyps. I hate that word! Guest guest
I might have to double my dose. Thanks Re: polyps asa desense Yes, completely! I do get occasional inflammation, but it hasn't resulted in polyps. > > > > > > > > I think we need to find a new name for polyps. I hate that word! Guest guest
Hi All, I am two years post asa desens. and polyp-free!!! I take 1300mg. of aspirin a day. I have been very fortunate and do not suffer with any stomache issues. I do still, however, deal with sinus inflammation and infections on a regular basis. I don't know if it's just Samters or if it is working in a dark, damp, moldy elementary school with children who are forever sick. I am so hopeful that I will stay out of surgery now that I am desensitized. Guest guest
Jane, How often do you take your doses and how much each time. The reason I ask is because I am on high doses of Tramadol, and think that the ASA would help my headaches too. Thanks, Tami Re: polyps asa desense Yes, completely! Guest guest
I start my morning with 1 Excedrine, which contains 325mgs of aspirin. I then take another 325mgs of aspirin with my breakfast. I then take 2 more Excedrin during the day as needed for headaches. This ends up giving me my totoal 1300 mgs of aspirin. I lean towards Excedrin because I am a major headache sufferer and the caffeine in Excedrine can keep me from going into migraines. Guest guest
Todd, I am always amazed when I hear that someone was desensitized, yet still has polyp growth afterwards. I have been so lucky. Have you had a break at all in your daily aspirin intake? It is my understanding that even 1 day without aspirin can resensitize us to aspirin and start polyp growth again. II've been on 1300mg of aspirin for almost 6 mo. and I haven't seen any change in my symptoms. I am now contemplating another surgery nasal surgery. Just like many of you I'm so frustrated and sick all the time.
Guest guest
Todd, this may by a dumb question.... Are you using a saline nasal wash? I use about 16 oz. 2-3 times a day sometimes more. I feel as though I still have an infection but the washes keep it from going full bore. I am thinking about the Desens. so when I here stories like yours I get discouraged. BUT like you said it's been 8 years. I had nasal surgery last June and I can feel areas that need a clipping, snipping, and vacuuming. Re: polyps asa desense Too funny, I was in between sneezes and what I wrote is all wonky!Anyway, I was desensitized almost 6 months ago. After the first month my doctor dropped me down to 625 mg and I started to get body hives really bad. So, he re-increased my dosage to 1300 mg. I've been taking two 325 mg during breakfast and two 325mg during dinner.Personally, I have seen ZERO improvement with my treatment. I still have all the typical symptoms that we complain about on a daily basis. Now keep in mind my last nasal surgery was in 2000/2001 almost 8 years ago. It may be time for another surgery with continued aspirin treatment.I'm still constantly stuffy and sick feeling. Guest guest
OOPs I just receive this email. Disregard my last post. WOW that a bummer that you don't get relief from the wash, I do for sure. As far as meds I am down to Adviar HFA (not disk), Astalin, & Nasicord. Both the Astalin & Nasacord don't seem to be helping me much at all though. Have a Great DaySteve man949-400-4683 Re: polyps asa desense In regards to Tami's question I would, however recommend that people at least give it a chance and try it. My case may be very rare, but who knows. To answer your question, no I haven't had a break in my aspirin intake.I will be the first to admit that I am not very regimented with taking medicines. Partly why my asthma got as bad as it did a few years back. However, in regards to the asa treatment I have been OVERLY regimented. Taking all my medicines and vitamin supplements are my number one priority. In fact, I keep aspirin at work and in the car just in case.Morning (AM)- ASA 650- Zantac 150- Allegra D- Astelin- Flonase- Advair 500Night (PM)- ASA 650- Zantec 150- Zyrtec 10- Singular 10- Astelin- Flonase- Advair 500Now, I don't use a nasal wash or the nose spay's hardly at all. Why? I get ZERO relief from them. In fact the nasal washes usually make things worse and I sneeze constantly. Also, please take into consideration that I have severe environmental allergies as well.
