Is it regular staph or methacillin reistant staph?? Carol

Irrigation & Update

Just wanted to caution people like me about irrigation. I did it once and the fluid literally got stuck because of the degree of swelling. It stayed that way for about a week, no matter what I tried. Painful. So, just be careful, as with all things. For those of you so kindly following my drama, the culture grew staph with gusto. I'm not feeling any better despite the antibiotics, but at least I know what's wrong. Dr. said maybe hospital if I don't feel better by the end of this week. Whatever...a week is a long time.Hope y'all are enjoying your weekend.

Carol - I haven't a clue. I didn't realize there was more than one

kind. Whatever the case, the nurse practitioner I spoke to late

Friday afternoon said that the clindamycin was the right drug. I

don't always get a lot of...guidance, you might say. I was planning

to see the regular doctor asap - maybe tomorrow(?) - since this has

turned into one of those things where everything is bad and I don't

know what is wrong and infection versus what is wrong and unrelated

to the infection. All of this is to say that I still don't know

what kind of staph it is. I figured they looked at the shape and

maybe did a gram stain and left it at that. Because this is how

little I know.

Hmm...I have a whole body staff infection. Have had it ever since

being bit by a brown recluse over 4 years ago. With the last

satellite outbreak my doctor wanted to put me in the hospital and run

an IV with clindamycin and vancomycin.

She said that the mycins are the ones that are working for staph. I

didn't go because it costs me 1500.00 co-pay each hospital stay. I

cannot afford it so tried to take the clindamycin by mouth but broke

out in hives everywhere, throat swelled, threw up and an asthma

episode. I have the same reaction with most anitbiotics.

Carol, what antibiotic are they using for yours? I have heard that

some are using a newer generation of penicillin...

> : clindamycin is kind of a wierd drug to treat staph with.

Is this a physician who is treating you and prescribing? Ask them if

this is regular staph or MRSA- just call them up on the phone. It is

important and staph is nothing to play around with. Unfortunately , I

have had it for three years and it has to be teated on and off with

IV antibiotics. You could also try some betadine in your irrigation

fluid to help combat infection. Carol

Dear Jess,

My NAET Dr. found staph over and over again. Many of my treatments were

for staph infection and I guess they worked because now I feel great! I

don't know how or why they worked and I don't know if all NAET Drs do this

but mine did.
