Guest guest
I have had Samters for 22 years now and have had numerous issues with my teeth. Strange because I have been obsessed with my teeth forever. I religously floss daily and take excellent care of my teeth. The strange thing is that many of my teeth are getting dark at the top where the teeth touch the root. My dentist finds this very strange and says that the teeth are dying because of nerve damage. How the nerves were damaged, I don't know. Jane From: Mike Hammond <rovenmike@...>Subject: RE: TEETH PROBLEMS"Samters Group" <samters >Date: Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 11:17 AM Hi Reg I have no experience with bridges but have a couple of enamel crowns one fitted since onset of samters with no problems. I have another gold crown from years ago again with no problems. A few months back I went to the dentist with what I thought was toothache and he X-rayed me and said that he could see no problems with fillings etc. However he showed me a shadow on the X-ray that he said was likely to be evidence of infection in the sinus. Well what a surprise that was........! After some antibiotics and a course of our friend the Pred I was sorted out. Hope you get some relief soon. Guest guest
Jane, thank you for your response. Do you think that steroids may be the cause? My problem may be in the roots. My teeth are dark because I had a lot of ear infections as a child and was given tetracycline. Guest guest
Depending on how long ago this was, the tetracycline could easily have affected the teeth. My sister had quite a lot of antibiotics as a child and her teeth are very discoloured and chalky now. Guest guest
Maybe we should take a poll on how many people have severe problems with their teeth. Even since I've had my teeth removed, I still can have toothaches in my false teeth, so the nerves are definately involved in the mix. Do people still do polls on this site? Guest guest
It is hard to know if steroids may cause problems with teeth at the roots. I am seeing my dentist soon and will have to run this by him. My teeth are darkening too and that is very discouraging to me. Guest guest
It would not be a surprise that nerves are involved in permanent maxillary sinus inflammations, like that seen in chronic sinusitis. Remember that the floor of the maxillary sinus is just slightly above the teeth roots (at least some of them), and the very thin bone that separates the roots from the sinus is slightly "porous", meaning that inflammation can reach down a bit.So, it would not be a surprise that permanent maxillary sinus floor inflammation could in turn inflame some nerves and some roots.Steroids may contribute to poor teeth health too, in a different manner.dentaldude.blogspot.com/2006/10/steroid-abuse-harms-gingival-tissues.html> > From: Mike Hammond rovenmike@...> Subject: RE: TEETH PROBLEMS> "Samters Group" samters > Date: Wednesday, January 21, 2009, 11:17 AM> > > Hi Reg> > I have no experience with bridges but have a couple of enamel crowns one fitted since onset of samters with no problems. Guest guest
Update: One lower root canal was performed today. The root was almost black - just dead; and my roots are extremely long. Thank Goodness no more pain. Seems like the the origial bridge work "killed" the tooth. The dentist volunteered to make me a new bridge but I told him I didn't want to make any changes right now. I believe either the infections or the medication have impacted many areas of my life for the long-run. Guest guest
Good to hear you’re out of pain. Now it’s interesting you say that the original bridge work killed the tooth. The tooth next to my bridge is definitely darker than the rest, I’ve noticed it particularly in photos so just might ask the dentist about it at my next checkup.
