Guest guest
Carol, thanks for that bit of advice, only problem is I underwent a sleep lab test last year and they said only very mild sleep apnea. Occasionally I take Normison sleeping tablets for three nights running, probably about every couple of months as the last thing I want to is to become dependant on them. Would it be too late to start irrigating again? It's been 11 months since my surgery and the doctor put me back on a short dose of pred. just to keep on top of things as we go into cold weather. I've also had a flu shot as well. POTENTIAL SPAM Re: post surgery advice to add to Ken's list.... Guest guest
My ENT had me stop irrigating a couple months after my first surgery and then everything went wrong again within a couple weeks of stopping the irrigation and I had to have a second surgery. He seems to think too much irrigation will make me get infections or something when the opposite seemed to happen! I am sticking to irrigating twice a day now and so far so good! He still seems to think I will be able to stop irrigating some day but at least for now he is convinced it is good to keep doing as my sinuses still look great 4.5 months later. My allergist is all for it. Go figure. So far as I am concerned, it is not hard to do and doesn’t take long and if I can continue to breathe through my nose, I will do it twice a day for the rest of my life if I have to!!! It is worth it. It has been so long since I could regularly breathe through my nose, I’m rather enjoying it and plan to keep it that way!!!! K. Guest guest
I would love to spend more time outdoors but unfortunately I am better off staying indoors in the pollen-free air this time of year! It drives my husband nuts that I refuse to let him open the windows in the spring, but my allergies are so bad right now, I need somewhere I can be and not be inundated with pollen!! When you say “eat lightly” do you mean eat small meals or something else? K. post surgery advice to add to Ken's list.... Hi Ken, I would add to your list of things to do to stay away from the knife: * Plenty of sleep (#1 on my list, the more sleep, the better my sense of smell) * Plenty of time outdoors in fresh air * Avoid highly stressful situations * Eat lightly * Plenty of moderate exercise such as walking (no strenuous exercise). By the way, I have not been desensitized and Singulair made me sick. Ellen > > The best thing is to stay away from the knife people as much as possible. > > Don't talk about the " next surgery " . Guest guest
Thanks for that , I'll give it a go. I don't have problem breathing, I'm being positive here in that my sinus is only very mild lately but my asthma's another thing. Could be the change in weather (summer to autumn with lots of rain)but it's the asthma that's waking me at night. Maybe the prednisone will kick in soon and that'll stop. As for finding another ENT, that's almost an impossibility as there's one in my area that I've decided not to go back to because he didn't want to remove the polyps so I went to the No. 2 in the state about three hours away. The next option will be the big city which is about five hours away and will involve accommodation etc. just for a visit and unfortunately not a financial option. Thanks again for the advice, I'm certainly willing to try anything. Guest guest
: The sleeping tablet you take does not cause dependency. One of the most important things that you need in life with a chronic illness is adequate sleep. There is a GREAT article/series of articles in the Nesweek magazine. I am not sure how old- but the front cover is entitled 'Why women can't sleep'. it is a great article and and is worth looking up and reading. Even if you sleep apnea is mild now it may be much worse in a yr or two so keep a close eye on it and remember that night that they studied you is just one night out of 365 or out of the rest of your life and the rest of them could be worse so stay alert and if you need to take an actual sleep med - as in a prescribed med then do it. Guest guest
Carol, thankyou for the information. I didn't realize that Normison isn't addictive and I guess I've always been a little concerned about taking them as I had a friend who became addictive to sleeping tablets years ago. I'll certainly keep a close eye on it and I've asked family members to let me know if I have a particularly bad night and have started to keep a diary for future reference. Thanks again Re: post surgery advice to add to Ken's list.... : The sleeping tablet you take does not cause dependency.
