I remember asking my doctor to give me this drug prior to my first trip

to France years ago...I wanted to smell the bread and lavender...and

did!

I wonder though why you would have trouble getting prednisone from your

doc. Those of us with this illness should always have some around, just

in case of an increase in asthma....won't your doctor allow you to have

some of this around just in case?

None of my doctors will give it to me unless I'm very sick. I did have ENT

specialist, the one who diagnosed me with Samters in the first place, tell

me that it would do me some good to be on it every once in a while just to

get me straightened out with my asthma and sinuses. But so many doctors only

see it as a last resort.

All of my doctors over the years have told me to keep this around, just

in case. I do not like taking it, the side effects are bad.

I will have to start taking it again soon in prep for my next surgery,

and am not looking forward to it.

On that note...has anyone here ever had a 'trephination' procedure to

get at your frontal sinus? I have a mucus sac that they need to drill

through my head (right under my eyebrow) to get at, and am very nervous

about it...the sac has already eroded through the orbit and is still

growing, it is not likely they can reach it through the nose.....I just

had surgery in April and am quite anxious abou this one....

I never thought of asking the allergist or the internalist for a Prednisone

prescription for " recreational " purposes -- they are both very cautious and

drop the term " osteo necrosis " into the conversation very quickly.

On the other hand, given all my experience, and the " wisdom " of my age, I

perhaps will be more agreessive the next time I see them. Thanks for the

encouragement.

In the meantime, the stuff from Brazil has done me quite nicely through this

Christmastime.

My doc said he would prescribe prednisone for exactly that purpose (so I can enjoy the holiday scents and foods), but then we discovered how remarkably injected steroids (Kenalog) work for me. Now I just time my Kenalog injections so they cover the holiday periods. I've noticed no ill effects from the injections, and one injection will restore my sense of smell for months (as long as nine months).

Okay, LOL.... I thought I was the only one that did that during the holidays. My ENT knows how bad I want to be able to smell during the holidays so he lets me do prednisone (or Medrol, that is easier on my body) about 2-3 times a year.

I never suggested on use it for recreational purposes....i have it in

case of bad asthma attacks...but most doctors will allow you to do

something (kenalog shots or prednisone) a couple times of year at

most...any more than that without a real need would be bad in my

opinion.
