Guest guest
Jessa Before I was first diagnosed with Samters I had a similar thing happen to me. To me it smelled sort of like an old wet ash tray. I thought it was from a co-worker that smoked. It finally cleared up after about the 4th course of anti biotics in a six month period. I can only guess it was a sinus infection (probably bacterial???) because it did eventually go away after antibiotics. I was diagnosed about 3 months later and had a polyp removal surgery done. I have never had this situation repeat itself. Marcus
Guest guest
Well, this is anecdotal also. When I am getting a sinus infection, I too get the cigarette smoke smell very early in the process. My wife, who doesn't have Samters, has also experienced it when she is coming down with a cold. Not sure if it's post nasal drip or what. Guest guest
Me too - I get this sensation every time I get an infection. My husband has a keen sense of smell and can also smell this - so he often knows, before me, that I am getting ill soon. kz --- Jim Brown <jim747@...> wrote: > Well, this is anecdotal also. Guest guest
I'm sorry - I'll try that again!! This is another 'me too' but for me the smells are stale BO or diesel fumes - yuk to both. It only ever happens when I've lost my sense of smell completely (real sense that is) and I've never associated it with an infection but maybe..... > > > Jessa > > > Before I was first diagnosed with Samters I had a similar thing > happen to me. Guest guest
Jessa, I too had that problem for several months after my sinus surgery. Then it just went away? I think I read that it may have been infection that was the cause; I think it is common. I agree, it was very gross. Rose > > Hi. Have a question. Guest guest
Jessa, didn't read what everyone else wrote in response yet, but I think it's fungal. I've had that before. It's nasty. Not sure about the dried blood. I have found acidophilus powders (available at any health food store, the ones that require refrigeration) are the best along with an anti- candida/anti-fungal type of diet. Also irrigation most definitely helps with this. Lori
Guest guest
jessa i have a completely different take on your mystery smell. i get this sensation when my sense of smell is starting to come back. i have the flower smell for a few weeks (but i cant smell anything) and then suddenly my nose starts working again. it happens more rapidly when i'm on prednisone (flower smell for a few days and then my smell comes back.) hope this means good things for you! jennifer > > Hi.
