Guest guest
Rob, thanks for this follow-up. What impresses me about your report is the fact that the beneficial effect has not significantly worn off in 4 months. When I tried it, I got the distinct impression that it became less effective, to the point of useless, within a couple of weeks. Bears more consideration . . . I do agree that the combination of Sinusbuster and Prednisone is VERY effective, and QUICK. Can you remind us how you take it? - dose - frequency - position -- Ken West Check the library . . . samters/links From: " Rob Cumberledge " <rob@...> Reply-samters Date: Wed, 29 Dec 2004 09:11:03 -0500 <samters > Subject: Sinus Buster Hi all, Just checking to see if anyone is still using the Sinus Buster Spray. I am still using it and here are my observations. The spray won't clear out the polyps enough to get my smell back but I do notice faint smells/tastes on occassion which I never did before. It does seem to keep the sinuses opened up so that I can breath through my nose. When I take prednisone my sinsues clear out faster and seem to stay clear longer. And finally, I haven't had a sinus infection since I have been using it. In fact, my youngest daughter (14) has asthma & sinus problems (not Samters) and she uses the spray. It is definitley helping her and she used to have sinus infections regularly. It is still too soon (4+ months) for me to attribute all of this entirely to the Sinus Buster spray, but until I stop having positive effects I will keep using it. Guest guest
Ken, I try to take it 3-4 times a day but that doesn't always happen. I usually just do one spray on each side and if I am not out in public a invert my head forward. If I remember to take a dose before bedtime I usually lie down with my head back for a minute or 2 though I think it is more effective with the "head forward" position. I do notice that it doesn't seem to be as effective as when I first started, but I am not taking it as often either. In addition there are times when it seems to be more effective for no particular reason. It's not the "silver bullet" but it provides some relief. Guest guest
I tried it, and it did seem to provide some decongestion, but nothing like you get from phenylephrine or oxymetazoline. The active ingredient also degrades after you have opened the spray bottle, so if you don't use it, you lose it. I did not use it for several weeks and then when I tried it again it had no sting at all and provided no decongestion. Last night I mixed up some homemade pepper saline last and irrigated with it, to see if that would clear out my stuffy nose, but it did not seem to help -- but it certainly did stimulate nerve endings up there. Tomorrow I plan to put a miticide on the rugs, hoping that will help. I still have my sense of smell, despite my nose being so stuffy. http://personal.ecu.edu/wuenschk/ChiliNose.htm Cheers, Karl W. Guest guest
I haven't tried this product so I can't comment on it. But I write b/c I can't stress enough the effectiveness of pulmicort respules used in the grossan sinus irrigator. I have reduced my steroid use to 5mg every other day and intend to taper off next month. In addition, I take advair and singulair and at night a dose of rhinocort. All else being equal (and it's not since I've reduced my oral steroid), the addition of this therapy has improved my baseline dramatically. I can breath 100% freely and I am not congested at all. Touch wood the effectiveness continues. Guest guest
Hello All: I'm still using the Sinus Buster product 1 -2X/day. Been using it fairly consistently over the last 3-4 months (along with 2X/day saline irrigation and nasal steroids). As Rob mentioned I think it does a fairly good job of relieving some nasal and sinus congestion, but I haven't noticed any immediate nor long term improvement with smell acuity. It especially helps clear me up first thing in the morning. One interesting thing brought up in a previous post by Karl was that I think many of us SB users perhaps thought we developed a tolerence to the " sting " expereinced when using this product. I know the initial use was an experience I will not forget! However, is it the case that the " sting " is no longer experienced by the user because the product quickly loses its potency? Interesting! Guest guest
A couple of days ago I tried, for the first time in weeks, an old bottle of Sinus Buster. No sting, no decongestion. I tried it on my tongue, not even a hint of pepper sting. So, has the sting left it or has my nose become insensitive to it? To answer this query I put one hot pepper seed in a half cup of Ringer's solution and boiled it. After it cooled, I carefully put a bit up my nose. I can assure you that the pepper sting was back. I suspect that our tissues do adapt to the pepper sting AND the product degrades after a few weeks. The following evening I tried a stronger home-made pepper solution. While it brought tears to my eyes, it was not accompanied by any noticeable decongestion. That said, I have been less congested today than usual. Did the pepper treatment contribute to this, or was it my cleaning the carpets with a miticidial solution, or was it something entirely different? Best wishes for 2005! Karl W. Re: Re: Sinus Buster I have noticed the same thing with the sting. I also read either on the Sinus Buster web site or on the instructions that that is to be expected. Guest guest
Two reasons why I think it works: - Largeer dose. The pulmicort respule is the same substance as Rhinocort [byoo-Des-oh-nide] but delivers .5 mg (or 500 mcg) versus 32 mcg per spray of Rhinocort. Most Rhinocort users take two sprays per nostril or 128 mcg at a time. So the pulmicort respule is roughly 4x the dose. - Wider dispersion. Nasal sprays are pretty inefficient and don't get the medicine deep into the sinuses where it's needed most. Using the grossan sinus irrigator gets the larger dose further into the sinuses. /Avi > >> I tried it, and it did seem to provide some decongestion, but > > nothing like you get from phenylephrine or oxymetazoline. Guest guest
...doesn't overload of vitamin C cause inflammation and sinus problems? I think that might be where the rebound effect of sinusbuster happens. It clears you out only to come back with a vengance later. Guest guest
This sounds very similar to Sinex which we have in Australia. Works immediately but after a while the body builds up an immunity to it and in actual fact it will make the sinus worse. I use Nasonex twice daily to prevent polyps returning but I guess the ENT SHOULD have checked first to see whether I had polyps or not because I have. <linda.leizear@...> wrote: Just FYI, several of us have given Sinus Buster a try ... it seems to work for a couple of weeks, then stops working. In my case, my sinuses seemed kind of numb after a couple of weeks. I had a bad feeling about that, so discontinued use. I think someone out there uses it occasionally with limited success. Guest guest
Hi All, I emailed the company and the response I got is pasted below " Hello, Sinus buster has shown time and time again that it will stop the growth of new polypus, however the jury is still out so to speak on Sinus busters effect on pre existing polypus. Sinus Buster has no side effects and no drug interactions. There is also no possibility of over dosing so it should not be a problem for you to use at all. I hope I have been able to help. Guest guest
Thanks for that information Mo. What concerns me though is the company is making this claim - just how accurate is it? I'd like to hear if any people have successfully stopped polyps returning with this product. Maybe I'm just skeptical.Mo Raja <fightback@...> wrote: Hi All,I emailed the company and the response I got is pasted below "Hello, Sinus buster has shown time and time again that it will stop the growth of new polypus, however the jury is still out so to speak on Sinus busters effect on pre existing polypus. Guest guest
...in my opinion...this is a catch 22 statement by this company. I read this to say...if you have polyps this product hasn't been proven to decrease them...if you don't have polyps...if you use this product you won't get them. Well. If you don't have polyps you don't really have the problem of getting them do you? Of course it works to keep them from appearing if you don't have them...ummmm...the problem is that we have them. They are never really gone even after a good surgery...the roots shall we say...are still there. So, in my opnion, this company covers it's butt by using words that can be misconstrued. Or maybe I am just a suspicious consumer at this point...lol. Trudy. > Just FYI, several of us have given Sinus Buster a try ... it seems to > work for a couple of weeks, then stops working. Guest guest
Trudy, Truly a horror story!! >LOL< but apparently it is what happens to most when they take horseradish. Had been doing some reading and ran across an article that said if you have nasal/sinus/chest congestion, try some fresh horseradish. I was heavily congested, so I went and got some horseradish...took a full teaspoonful and had to run for the sink. Within seconds I was hanging over the sink because this stuff flat out makes your sinuses drain. Not gently either. It was like a river, thick copious crap coming out my nose and throat, I was coughing so hard that I busted a rib, tears were running down my cheeks...And even with all that, within a few hours after this, I was congested again!! The after effects were almost as bad. My throat felt burned, my eyes and face were swollen, I had a migraine and talk about wheezing. It was so unpleasant that I don't think I will ever try it again. -NM " Trudy " <iamthezookeeper@y...> wrote: > I'll bite! Tell us the horseradish story. Trudy. Guest guest
OMG!! I can't even imagine the pain. We really need to invent something that has that " clearing " effect with no rebound or reaction later. And if samterites make more mucous than normal, how do we stop production without fully depleting the benefits of some mucous? I really wish I had stayed in cellular research sometimes instead of straying off the path to microbiology...oh well. One of us will come upon something that really works and the end of this disorder will come! Trudy. > > I'll bite! Tell us the horseradish story. Trudy.
