I'd like to hear more about exactly how you position yourself and operate the hand pump Flonase spray more effectively to get the drug delivered high enough in your nasal chamber to be helpful for polyps. I have insisted on using "puffers" rather than hand pump sprays because I think them more effective than the hand pumps, and wish I had access to the nasules that are available outside of the US for delivering a metered dose of topical steroid to the upper nasal cavity.

RE: Vitamin A

My ENT has recommended that I use the Flonase while in the “Mecca” (head down) position so that the spray is directed toward my polyps.

Hi Karl,

Yes it can be a little difficult. I think

I too would really prefer a pressurized dose so that it could reach up to where

most of my polyps are. Unfortunately, my Dr. keeps insisting that Flonase is

best.

Let me see if I can describe the procedure

to you.

If you notice where the bottom of the little

tube points (in the bottom of the Flonase bottle), you can hold the bottle so

that, even though your forehead is pretty much pointing toward the floor, you

can insert the tip far up into your nose while keeping the siphon tube generally pointing down. This keeps the siphon

tube submerged and from sucking air. I have even learned to do it fairly effectively

down to the last few drops. Remember ’m not standing on my head, but am

pointing my forehead toward the floor. The bottle is not inverted nor totally

on its side, but is pointing up at about a 20 degree angle above horizontal. Hope

this is not too confusing.

I try to keep my head down for 30 seconds

or so after delivering a couple of shots in each nostril so that the liquid

falls toward my upper sinuses.

My biggest problem with Flonase (other

than its cost) is that it is not pressurized. I also hate that you can’t

easily get the bottle open to try to recover the last drop or two. I can never

get a full month out of one bottle. I’m always a few days short.

When you think about the price, every drop

really counts. Being in the oil business (don’t hate me!), I get a kick

out of comparing Flonase to oil (black gold) in price. Currently oil is very

high priced at about $36 per barrel. If you priced Flonase similarly it would

cost over $225,000 per barrel. Every drop counts.

I hope my description has helped somewhat.

I think the Flonase helps prolong my taste after Prednisone rounds, but it’s

really hard to tell how effective it really is. BTW, is there any chance that

the Nasules could come to the US?

Glad it's working Avi. Seems to me it's about the only way to get the

stuff where it's needed.

To whomever suggested using the mecca position for flonase... I've

tried it and have had great success.

Thank you,

Avi

Tom,

I usually try to keep my head down for 20

seconds or so. However, no doctor ever told me how long to do it.

Re: Mecca

I do have a question about the MECCA

position, which I also have been using for two years now..

What do you all generally get in this position for...the length of

time? Seconds...minutes???
