Guest guest
HI Jackie, This shot is the Depro-Provera shot, I believe. I think you get it once a year or something like that. I would be soooo wary of it. My Mom has a friend who has a adopted dd (the dd is 21) who was brain damaged by alcohol fetal syndrome from her birth Mom, this girl has already had one pregnancy which she aborted, so her mental health workers have her taking this shot. She has put on a lot of weight from it, this girl used to be bone thin!! If I am not mistaken, it's shooting a woman full of hormones, right? Kerin PS--Jackie, forgot to answer your question the other day! I am on Cape Cod...

Guest guest
Kerin, It sure sounds like its " shooting a woman full of hormones " !! It CAN'T be good. I did a little checking and the Depro-Provera is done every 3 months I think, and I guess there's a new one coming out called Lunelle. that is supposedly safer but you get the shot every month. According to all the propaganda I found on the web, it is just like the pill and they're trying to develop a way that women can give themselves the shot so as to avoid so many trips to the drs. I just CAN'T believe it's that safe! Maybe the 'putting on weight' issue,at least, will be enough to scare my friend! Thanks for the input-- Jackie
Guest guest
The pill is not even as safe as I once believed. I developed a (thankfully) benign liver tumour from it. I think the shots do have the same side effects. Re: OT-Birth Control Injection Jackie >From: Jackie ez <jaqjav@...> > >Kerin, >It sure sounds like its " shooting a woman full of hormones " !! Guest guest
Hello, I was on Depo-Provera for about a year and my sil was on it too, as was my mom and at least three cousins. After you quit taking it you have a higher chance of miscarriage, it takes about a year after you're due for your last injection to become pregnant (not everyone of course), and everyone that I know that has taken it has had their period stop which is usually a selling point. Except now that whole thing scares, and after my two kids I got an IUD which are much, much safer than they used to be. Ecspecially if you are monogamus. My sil thought she was pregnant did the announcing thing and all and later they thought the baby had died and she got a D & C and there was no baby just amniotic fluid or something close to that. Sorry I don't have the facts sitting next to me and this happened 4 years ago. I did not know that there was a higher risk of miscarriage or baby-less pregnancies until I saw my doctor while trying to get pregnant and he told me that yes after the shot there is a greater chance of these kinds of incidences. I was not prewarned about these things when I was getting the shots at the local health department, not this doctor. Anyhow side affects that affected family members were depression, moodiness, weight gain and pimples. I did not gain weight but a cousin got big and moody, my depression got worse. Anyways I didn't have anything technical to say and I see my post is somewhat confusing but the shot was something I sure wish I wouldn't have bothered with. And the shot was every three months. Guest guest
I'm so glad I said no to depo-vera shots--especially after reading your posts!!! after I had my baby, they kept asking me if I wanted it as a means of birth control... I kept telling them we'd do the condom control... I'm SO GLAD I didn't give in!!!
Guest guest
<< I just CAN'T believe it's that safe! Maybe the 'putting on weight' issue, at least, will be enough to scare my friend! >> It really does make some women gain a lot of weight. I can attest to that. The OB persuaded me to try it after the birth of my first child. I gained almost forty pounds in ten months while on it. I even ate less than usual and was breast feeding which is supposed to help with weight loss. When I stopped taking the Depro Provera I didn't gain any more weight. Guest guest
That's interesting Staisha! I had no idea about those side effects of depro-vera either! After I had my twins, at my 6 week post-partum, we talked about birth control....and the doctor/nurse practitioner NEVER mentioned any of those or any side effects at all. Just ANOTHER reason I have so little faith in the medical commmunity. Thankfully, I did not go with that option!
