Guest guest
Part 2/2 Advocating for India at UNGASS Dear Forum Members: If you allow me, as part of the civil society, I would like to suggest the following on how we can proceed with our preparations. 1.The major objective of this UNGASS meeting is to mobilize leadership, resources in all sectors and also to increase the political commitment towards fighting HIV in our countries. 2.We were also suppose to comment on the document with relevant to India. Having gone through the various comments and activities across the globe, the following are my suggestions. 3.Before we make the position paper, we need to determine the major objective of this position paper. I am sure all of us want to see some action associated with this paper, even if it means a small change. 4.There are various way you can mobilize the civil societies comments towards this position paper. a) Exisiting networks (if they wish to) can take initiative on preparing the statements detailing their comments on what should be the priorities in their area of expertise. Some e.g include but not limited to ** PWA Net-works can comment on what they would like to see change in next 1-2 years ** AIDS Society of India (clinician Network) can comment on what their immediate priorities are in next 1-2 years ** NGO Net works can comments on similar lines ** Network of International Agencies working in India Individuals or organizations. ** I have enclosed the list of organizations expressed interest or planning to attend UNGASS meeting at the end of this e-mail. Mobilize small-scale meetings in different cities to discuss the same. This has to be done as soon as possible. c) Mobilize comments from individuals and organization to be posted on AIDS/INDIA Forum 5. DEMAND that NACO/INDIAN MISSION calls a meeting with the Civil society sometime in May . Please don't wait until June. But prior to this we need to decide on what we are meeting them for , meaning what are our immediate vs long-term demands and our action plan for making these demands real. **** enclosed is the list of civil society orgnazations planning/interested to attend UNGASS meeting from South east ASIA. 1.
