Jackie,

the only one I am sure of is polio vaccine. It goes through the body and

if while changing diaper they don't wash hands or they are not careful it

can be passed on. I was going to baby sit for my best friend who's child is

8 mo younger then mine but she still vaccinates and I don't want the risk, I

am also not going back to a daycare situation because of this. not sure but

chix pox may be the same.

jackie -

only in the case of the live vaccines, such as

chickenpox! the site www.whale.to has loads of info on

vaccines, check there which ones are live, apart from

the varicella one.

I just read in the Mothering issue on vaccinating that actually this can

" vaccinate " your child and not harm them. They said the only people it could

harm and not " vaccinate " would be those with immune problems or those on

chemotherapy,etc... Who knows!

Hi Jackie

I believe all the " live " vax can " shed. " Measles component of the MMR

can shed up to two weeks. Polio (as already mentioned thru feces) and

the varicella (chicken pox) is a live one too.

The Money Magazine, Dec. 1996, discussed a mom, fully vaccinated, who

got polio after changing her daughter's diaper. I would not go over

board...but definately use good hygiene practices. Until my daughter

understands the concept of not swallowing water in a pool....we got her

a little pool and this is what she uses.

I agree with the other post about the other live vaccines....

SWIMMING POOL/POLIO VACCINE ISSUES

I have been following the swimming pool/polio virus

with

great interest and have been

digging to find some facts of chlorine. It seems

another

can of worms , but find out for

Hi, Jackie,

Children who take the oral polio/live virus vaccine would " shed " the live

virus in their saliva, urine and feces for up to two months afterwards.

Does anyone know if getting the disease from a recently vaccinated person is the

same as getting the " true " disease? I always thought that getting the disease

that way may be a " mutant " form and not the real one, which I WOULD be scared

of?

If not, then I would love to expose my son to those diseases (except polio)

because the way things are going, I don't know if he's ever going to get measles

and chicken pox naturally, since everyone will be vaccinated against them. I

want him to get them in childhood so he can get them over with and never have to

worry about them again.

I know those two are still somewhat around, but does anyone hear of anyone

getting mumps any more? I guess the days of " chicken pox parties " are over :-(

Anyone whose kids get the diseases should post here and where they live so we

can get our kids exposed! :-)

Also, I've never really been worried about swimming pool exposure to polio

because I figure the shere volume of water, let alone all the chlorine, would be

enough to dilute it's strength to practically nothing. (Unless maybe EVERYONE in

the pool had it) Weren't the pool scares of the '50's because they really didn't

know alot about the disease then and people were just paranoid, the way they

were at first with AIDS?
