Hello everyone,

My name is a, my husband Tom and I have 3 boys ages 7, 4-1/2, 18 mos.

and am due in Jan. with our 4th. We are a homeschool family, which is

actually how I began looking into whether to vaccinate or not.

Our first 2 children were vaccinated, why, because I worked in a

Pediatricians office before I had children and saw that is what you do.

Just prior to the birth of our third son a homeschool friend gave me some

information to read regarding vaccines. My husband and I were convinced

that we would not have our 3rd child receive the hepatitis vaccine, but

still were not decided on the rest. I remember while in the hospital

with him, I specific told the nurses, he was not to get the vaccine, but

they gave it to him anyway.

The pediatrician is see now supports my decision and said he would treat

my child should he come down with any of the ailments. He did however,

highly recommend the HIB vaccine and we have proceeded with that vaccine.

I would appreciate others views on the HIB vaccine.

Have a good day,

Blessings,

a

Hi a :-)

We considered Hib for our son in the beginning; but after reading up on it,

I honestly felt that it wasn't necessary. Nap time is coming to an end so

I will try to re-type what I found in some of my books re: Hib vaccine-----

from 'Vaccinations: The Issue of Our Times:::

Greatest number of cases in 87' - 12,000

Greatest num of cases in 93'-17

....statistically, it doesn't seem threatning IMO

" Twor recent studies have concluded that HIB does not seem to spread from

child to child as readily as doctors suspected. (new england journal of

medicine) Earlier studies indicated that the infant brothers or sisters of

a child with meningitis are up to 400 times more likely to contract this

illness; however one of the more recent studies showed that only one child

out of 587 who had regular contact with an infected toddler went on to

develop the illness. ....Vaccine failure is also being investigated. Work

is under way to determine why it is that some children who receive the

preparation go on to develop meningitis (new england journal of medicine

315, 18 Dec 1986........In Minnesota for example, vaccinated children were

more likely than nonvaccinated children to becom infected with Hib; those

who became infected were 86% more likely than controls to have been

vaccinated. (Science News 132, 24 Oct.87')

" development of a new vaccine: a conjugate vaccine, unlike the original

preparation that is made from a polysaccharide fragment of the

vaccine.....researches are hoping this will prove effective in children as

young as 6mo of age. However, conjugate vaccines also have potential

problems. One is that they have been pretested in Finland and not in this

country. Another is that they have a " window of increased susceptibility "

to Hib infection during the first seven days after inoculation. Granoff

and others claim this is due to the vaccine's action of temporarily

" binding up the body's naturally occurring Hib antibodies "

.....that's all for now. My little guy is waking up; but I also have a book

by Neautsdater that goes into further detail....I'll try and get back to ya

asap.

Peace
