Guest guest
Good morning everybody, I was diagnosed as hypothyroid 2 years ago through the NHS and had gradually worked up to 150mcgs of thyroxine. I recently saw a psychiatrist because of my continuing depression and mood swings and she agreed, at my request, to give me a trial of Liothyronine. For the past month, I have been taking 100mcgs of thyroxine at bedtime and 10mcgs of Liothyronine in the morning and was required to have a blood test last week. The lady GP I have been seeing has been pretty supportive and has " pushed " to have my T3 tested. (The local NHS lab simply will not test T4 or T3 when the TSH is within the reference range even if the GP requests it). I printed out Dr Toft's recommendations for the GP and it seems like she has at least read it! Hurray! Despite agreeing with the GP to test the T3 and not just the TSH, the lab did only test the TSH and so I have to go again on Friday morning to have the blood taken again for the T3 test and the GP says she will make sure it is done this time. Last week (as usual, following the recommendations given here) I didn't take my thyroxine at bedtime the night before the test, and neither did I take my Liothyronine in the morning until after the blood had been taken. On reflection, I wonder if this is the right way of doing things with the liothyronine. If I haven't taken any T3 for over 24 hours before I have my T3 level tested, will the results be very skewed, and is this desirable? Apart from obviously wanting to help myself feel as well as possible, I feel greatly indebted to these two women doctors who are stepping " out of line " on my behalf and I don't want to be in any way " deceitful " with them unless absolutely necessary. Any advice regarding dosing before the test (or anything else, come to that :-)) would be greatly appreciated. Sorry that this is so long, and thank you for reading. Sending best wishes to all, Jen
