Hi Stacey,

I had terrible problems with stiff neck, aching teeth and pain around my

temples. Seems that it's linked to hypo - I read about it in Hypothyroidism

type II by Mark Starr. Caused by clenching teeth together when you sleep.

I fixed it by getting a mouth guard (like a gum shield) from the dentist. It

speads the force. If I don't sleep with it I wake up with aching teeth, jaw and

neck but sleeping with it in is brilliant.

Hypothyroidism.... the disease which just keeps giving huh? :(

I have Hypo-t, PMR and GCA (Temporal arteritis). The last two beginning early

this year and at first symptoms were masked by the hypo-t.

The way to diagnose this is by a CRP and ESA blood test, they get the results

one hour after taking the blood and if your plasma viscosity is high along with

some other things, you should be sent to a rheumatologist for further

investigation. You may need a temporal biopsy.

A word of warning, if you get any double vision or loss of sight please go

immediately to your nearest admissions accident and emergency hospital as sight

can be lost totally in just two hours from onset, also be aware of any hearing

loss, deafnwess can also occur very fast, I know I lost hearing in my right ear

in less than two hours, numbness down one side of your body as stroke can also

occur very quickly once symptoms are active. Once at the hospital you should

give all symptoms and let them know you have a thyroid condition and tell them

your suspicions of PMR or GCA.

I do hope you don't have either of those conditions as they are very disabling.

Jaw claudication is common but not always present in GCA.

Get help as soon as you can, if only to rule it out.

Lynne
