Guest guest
When phoning round to try and join a different GP surgery, you can hardly expect them to deal with you like it is a medical emergency. Nonetheless it is perhaps useful to try and get an idea if doctors would play ball with regards to thyroid. This is harder than you might think because there is a general assumption that of course you'll get everything prescribed and they don't normally deal with any sort of communication until your first appointment. There was one surgery though where there was a vague chance of communiction before signing up. By the end of the day, I gave up hope that anybody from a certain surgery would phone me back, either forgot, didn't want to deal with it... Considering that the surgery had closed hours ago and that it was out of hours, I really didn't expect a GP to phone me after 7pm! After all it was out of hours time and I wasn't in a major emergency or even a patient, just somebody thinking of joining. Having filled in a form elsewhere, I now feel inclined to go with the surgery, where the GP went out of her way to phone me. I doubt the receptionist would have done anything with the form 10 mins before locking up, on a Friday of a BH weekend. We were saying, just have a brief bit of embarrassment and have the certaincy of joining a surgery where they would go out of the way to help. Granted the helpful GP did say that she can understand why doctors would query the 60mcg T3 when it's out of the routine and most do well on Levothyroxine... She actually agreed that some patients can need different forms of treatment and she seemed to see both sides of the story, that I had tried different doses of Levothyroxine and wasn't well... She is a GP who would want to look into things, read letters etc. She did say she doesn't rule out prescribing the T3. But where is the harm in that, if it's done with the objective of supporting the patient and trying to give the help we need. She did say that if I want to get in touch and go and see her I can! So errr who do you think I should sign up with? A GP surgery where a GP went out of her way to phone me out of hours to discuss T3 before I am even a patient? OR taking a random rushed gamble at any surgery where it wasn't possible to make any contact until the first appointment? I read so many stories on the forum about people having just had a bad GP appointment and of course my experiences. So it is nice to hear something encouraging for once isn't it.
