Maybe I'm wrong? Cup with a straw is the way I want to go with . Glad to hear that it is working well. Norma
Guest guest
Hi Using a curly straw helps as well as using a straw to suck up applesauce. Jeannette
Guest guest
Just a warning about straws. I use a straw cup with Bridget. She has learned to manipulate the straw to the point of flattening her lower lip and placing her tongue on her lower lip, then putting in the straw and puckering only with her upper lip. We are working on lip stength to correct this. She can drink from a regular cup, but it takes much longer because she tends to flatten that lower lip. Our ST is working on this at schoola nd privately. We use a lip block to let her only put in a small section of the straw which requires her to pucker her lower lip also. Another thing we are doing is using thick liquids like a very thick milkshake. This requires much more sucking power and is helping to strengthen her lip muscles and facial muscles. We did not use a sippy cup, but went directly to hte straw. Just another part of it all. mom to Bridget 8 ds __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Tongue exercises that we did. 1. Have child stick tongue out as far as it will go (hold straight using bottom muscle)and hold for 5-10 seconds. Do 5-10 repetitions. 2. Touch the corners of the mouth with the tip of the tongue, back and forth for 10 sets. This is hard and the child may use their whole tongue at first. As strength develops, encourage him to just touch with the tip. 3. Rotate the tongue around the lips in a full circle 5 times. Then reverse the direction and go the other way 5 times. 4. Have child press tip of tongue on inner cheeck and hold for 5 seconds. Switch to the other side for 5 seconds. Do five sets. 5. Put the tip of tongue on top of mouth and say " TA " . Several times 6. Put the tip of tongue behind bottom teeth and say " KA " several times. 7. Put the tip of tongue behind bottom teeth and say " PA-TA-KA " several times. Do all the exercises 1-2 times daily. We got great results. Tongue I want to know if someone can give me some advice in exercises for Marcos´ tongue He used to take it out not too much but after he was in hospital (and as consecuence to be asleep most of the days with the tube inside the mouth that doesn´t allow him to close it) he is taken it out all the time. I think that there must be some exercises or something to minimize this behavior pls, let me know. Thanks Click reply to all for messages to go to the list. Guest guest
Hi everyone, I too have a tongue too big for my mouth, which has teeth like marks on both sides and a 'groove' or 'split' all the way down the middle.I've watched Gillian McKieth for several years and she mentions it all the time,as she looks at peoples tongues and their poo!Sha can tell what is going on inside peoples bodies just by looking at these particular things. Her food regimes make a lot of sense, but I find it all too exhausting to bother with all that rigmarole!!But she does say the tongue issues are caused by deficiencies. Best wishes Sharon
